Good old fashioned winter fun, right in your own backyard. That's what Lindsay White's kids and her cousin Devin Seppala were enjoying, while skating and practicing hockey moves on the ice rink they made right there at home. Now when the kiddies want to go skating, they just pull on their skates and out they go. At first I thought the chairs were just there to help them skate around, as many kids use a chair to hold on to while they're learning to skate. But it looks like it's a good spot to view the action, too. There are many ways to enjoy the Keweenaw winters and it's wonderful to see little ones like this, being encouraged to get outdoors for some fresh air and exercise. Kudos, to the parents!

It appears to me that "chivalry is dead" on that ice rink!;)

Reminds me of "days gone by", we had a rink in our yard here in the Lower when our kids were growing up. Now as I peer outside on Jan 24 it is nearing 50 degrees and no snow, makes for tough skating. Our oldest son stayed on with the hockey life and ended up playing for 2 years at Southern Cal in a minor west coast league and got to travel N.Mex, Ariz, Wash. Ore, Cal. all by studying and using his hockey skills honed in Troll Land. One member of his team in the 80's hailed from Chassell.........

Warms my heart to see these kids out in the snow.
We spent all our free time skating , building snow
forts etc. when we were kids. Those were the days!!!
Kids now adays stay in with those videos, x boxes
tweeting or whatever they do. Missing so
much!!!!!!!! We finally have 2 inches of snow here
in Colorado. Looks so pretty out there. Nothing
compared to the winters in Hubbell! Theresa

How peaceful the winters were in Lake Linden,
standing with my head tipped back, catching the big
snowflakes on my tongue. Nothing compares to small
town life and childhood memories!

My brother & I took my niece sledding last Saturday in Jackson, MI. It was a perfect day for it: sunny, calm, mid 20's, with enough snow that was compressed somewhat by other sledders. We had two wooden sleds, one from the 1960s and one even older, plus my niece had her plastic saucer (she would sometimes use a sled but my brother & I never used the saucer).

Good thing we went when we did, it's all grass now; temperatures went up Sunday afternoon and evening.

Well, it looks like he's gonna need a second job, Paul;)

I don't understand your lack of snow in Colorado, Flash, as all we hear about is how much snow Colorado is getting. Where do you live in Colorado? I heard this afternoon that they were closing I-70 to so they could clean up the avalanche danger, etc, because of the excessive snow.

My youngest son is really enjoying the big snow dump in Houghton from yesterday. He sent me a picture of another kid, so I could see how deep it was outside of Fisher Hall (knee-deep).

Now that looks like fun!

In Colorado, there are the mountains and then there are the plains, almost 2 states - kind of like the two peninsulas of Michigan. Whenever it snows in the mountains, the ski areas put out all kinds of press releases about it. I'm near Ft. Collins and the ground is bare.

We need a "LIKE" button Charlie!

Love the rink, looks like nice smooth ice. My dad would make
us one during Pittsburgh winters, but it would be melting more
than freezing. My dad was from Mohawk and my mother from
Fulton. They talked about a public rink in the Mohawk/Fulton
area when they were kids. They recall the beauty of the
northern lights when walking home from the rink.
