By Lyndelle Chiomenti, Frederick, MD on Monday, January 31, 2005 - 12:46 pm:

Today's picture reminds me so much of a poem by Emily Dickenson. I won't quote the entire poem, just the following:

"There's a certain slant of light
on winter afternoons . . .

When it comes, the landscape listens,
shadows hold their breath.

When it leaves,
'tis like the look of distance
on the face of death."

Heartfelt sympathy to all who have lost loved ones in January.

By ILMHitCC on Monday, January 31, 2005 - 08:03 pm:

Rest peacefully, Sully Kauppi. Very few people knew his name was Willard - he's always been Sully. A truly remarkable man who married a truly remarkable woman and led a truly remarkable life. There's none tougher. The Keweenaw will never be the same without your war stories, woods stories, Lake stories and ingenious one-liners! Nor will predicting the weather ever be as accurate - you were your own walking almanac. It's the end of an Era.

My condolences go out to his family and all of those people lucky enough to enjoy his friendship. Rest in peace, Sully.
