Mirror Lake is located within the Porcupine Mountain Park boundaries, with a rustic cabin for camping nearby. Nate and Hilarie Alwine, along with their faithful canine companions (Toby pictured here), took to the trails and did a bit of fall camping and hiking recently. Quite the different scene from the lookout at Summit Peak with the trees devoid of leaves, but still a great vista to behold. In case you didn't notice, Hilarie is hiking and camping for two, carrying Callie Jane wherever she goes! :->

Good morning from Mishawaka IN. Now that looks like fun. Is that firewood on the front porch? Do the little cabins have a fireplace or wood burning stove?

By NKR (Nkr) on Friday, November 4, 2005 - 06:32 am:

Ooops. I didn't see the first picture. Might be wood for a campfire.

Wow, wish I was camping up in the UP right now...it sure does look beautiful and oh so peaceful.
Nate and Hilarie, congrats on your baby. And Hilarie, I have to give you credit to be hiking in the mountains while being pregnant. When I was pregnant, I considered getting off the couch and walking to the fridge, to be a trek. ;)

What great pictures to put in the baby's album.

Sur5er,
It is a little damp this morning. It wouldn't be too much fun sitting around a campfire with the weather we have today. Rain today....snow by the weekend.

Looks like one of those times you just sit back and say----it dosent get any better than this!

Lorelei,
Temps in the 70's today on Lake Michigan, with plenty of sunshine. Figure I will take advantage of another beautiful day, to wash pillows and hang them on the line.
We're hoping for campfire weather this weekend. Which reminds me, I should hook up the utility trailer and go get a load of campfire wood for the winter. Yeah right. Isn't that what hubbies are for?

U.P. camping in the fall. What could be better. Still not too cold and zero bugs.

Oh, that looks like fun!
Congratulations Nate and Hilarie, on the baby! I'm jealous... :'(

Hey all! How cool to see this on Pasty.com today. NKR, I grew up in Mishawaka what part of Mishawaka are you from?

As for the cabins. They each have a wood stove, bunks, table, counter space, untinsels for cooking, and tools for chopping wood. They are very cute and cozy and I think all cost around $50/night with a 2 night minimum on weekends.

Its a fun place to visit, plus each of the cabins on lakes or ponds have rowboats or canoes.

Cafeful Nate, Hilarie, and Callie Jane!

I hiked overnight into the Porkies for the first time in September of 1980, and never forget it.

...... We moved here full time, two years ago!
