Mornin'

By NKR Mishawaka IN on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 07:27 am:

Good morning from Mishawaka IN. Great Blast From The Past Picture. Nice picture Charlie. It is always amazing to me how someone could climb the side of a mountain. I can hardly get up on a step ladder. Have a great day everyone!

I have a question. I was up at Tech yesterday picking up my son. The canal had several white stipes running parallel with the shore. They looked like white stipes you would see in a pool. These stripes appeared to be painted on the surface of the water. They did not look like a floatation device. Yet, the paint was not disapating in the water. I could see them for hours. They were clearly marked. How in the world wsa this done (or do I need my eyes or head examined?)

By Alex Tiensivu, Georgia on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 08:10 am:

Gee... Sounds like (drum roll) Water colors! Oooo... That was BAD!

By desert rat on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 08:16 am:

Hey Alex, any update on Fran and family? Hope no news is good news.

By Alex Tiensivu, Georgia on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 09:34 am:

I was just talking with her. She's hanging in there, but her son is a mess, to say the very least. I spoke with him for a little while, but he is NOT taking this very well.

Hal will not recover. It's just a matter of time and from what Fran described, I'm surprised he hasn't left us yet.

I'll post as I hear more and for those who didn't see it, Fran posted last night in the What'sUP conference. You can go back to see what she said.

What a reminder of how sensitive life really is. But she has very clearly stated what all of the comments from people here have done for her.

We should all continue to pray.

Fran,

My heart goes out to you and your family. I am praying for you for the Lord to give you strength in the days to come. God Bless.

By Cindy, St. Clair Shores, MI on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 03:47 pm:

Fran,
I am praying for you and your family. I just read what happened and my heart goes out to all of you.

By al, minneapolis on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 03:48 pm:

Doug,
I think you're talking about Langmuir circulation. When the wind blows parallel to the portage somehow it creates rotating columns of water which also run parallel in the portage. As the columns rotate they pick up debris and where one column meets another column a line of floating debris is formed. What you were seeing wasn't paint but turbulence and debris. The following web site has a little blurb on this at the very bottom of the page: http://www.esf.edu/efb/schulz/Limnology/watermovement.html

By NKR Mishawaka IN on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 06:35 pm:

Fran-GA. My prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time. Look to the Lord and he will comfort you and give you strength.

Alex: Haven't been on this for a day or two. Just read about Frans Hal! Gee!
Our thoughts and prayers also, from another ex- Dollar Bay resident!

By Fran,Ga on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 12:22 am:

Hi everyone of you special Yoopers.Your notes and special thoughts and prayers mean so much to me.I am going to print them all out later and save them. My friend from NY cannot believe that
we all have a special bond. She could not understand how we would go out of our way to meet people(Alex and family) we didn't even know!!

As of 7 tonight Hal is pretty much the same.He is kept comfortable and we talk to him and touch him a lot and the touch seems to comfort him. Our son felt better this after noon and ate a little.

Our neighbors have been wonderful helping me out. Many people that my daughter and son-inlaw work with have offered to sit with Hal at night so we could come home to rest and he would not be alone. I must go to bed. God Bless all of you.

To the fellow who asked where I lived.I live in Rosville Ga but we are just over the state line from East Ridge,Tn and about 15 min or so from Chatt.Fran

Fran,

So glad to hear that friends and co workers are being supportive and helpful during this time of need. It's good to hear that your son is coping a little better...this must be so hard on all of you. Take care of yourself, and remember that you and your family are blanketed in our love and prayers.

By Mary Lou on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 06:58 am:

Fran...good to know you have the love and support of family and friends during this most awful time....God will guide you and hold you in the palm of his hand.....although I do not know you personally...I am a"Lake Linden girl" and have enjoyed your comments about Dollar Bay and after Sunday's comments about Hal's job with Atlas, feel that we were introduced to him as well.....know we are with you in spirit.

By SDC, Ferndale, MI on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 11:39 am:

Fran, GA:
I cannot say much more than what has been previously said but know that you and your family are in my family's thoughts and prayers.
We love you. This from another Dollar Bay gal.
