Whether it's a proud partridge or a nibbling gray squirrel, the critters all around the U.P. are always good for entertaining photos. The first shot today, is from George & Paulette Beveridge and is none other than, Pretty Bird and he's all puffed out proud-like. In case you're new to the Pasty Cam, Pretty Bird has graced our pages a number of times and is a ruffed grouse (or partridge) that George has befriended and tamed as if he was a pet. George says it's been 4 years this month, that they've been feeding him each and every day and the table fare usually includes shelled sunflower seeds and cut up apple. The small birds enjoy the luncheon, too.

Speaking of luncheons, Frederic W. Koski attended one with a gray squirrel recently, complete with flowers to decorate the table. I'm not sure exactly, what this fluffy tailed critter is munching on, but those crocuses poking out behind his tail sure do add some beautiful color to the scene. Let's hope that both the flowers and the critters won't have to take cover from anymore surprise snow flurries now, until late fall arrives once again.

We've seen a white turkey around here. Would get a picture, but since it's not in the UP, it couldn't get submitted anyway. But it is very cool to see!!

Pretty Bird is strutting his stuff! That squirrel is "Taking time to smell the flowers". Very cool pictures!

Just took the time to look it up. A grouse is not the same as a partridge. They are both subcategories of the same family of birds, but they are indeed different species.

My husband and I hear them in the woods in the spring. When the males go a'courting, they drum their wings. It sounds like a motorcycle trying to start off in the distance in the trees.

Thump...thump...thump...thump...
Thumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthump

Our property is just outside Calumet, so I know they are there. I've seen partridges there too.

God, I love the Yoop!

Just got this email and thought I'd share:

TAKING TIME
Take time to think...It is the source of er.

Take time to play...It is the secret of
perpetual youth.

Take time to read...It is the fountain of
wisdom.

Take time to pray...It is the greatest power
on Earth.

Take time to love and be loved...It is a God-
given privilege.

Take time to be friendly...It is the road to
happiness.

Take time to laugh...It is the music of the
soul.

Take time to give...It is too short a day to be
selfish.

Take time to work...It is the price of
success.

Take time to do charity...It is the key to
Heaven.

That bird looks ready for the royal wedding this weekend and I don't mean for the main course at the reception dinner.

So nice to have signs of Spring to enjoy today! Donna ... I like the poem "Taking Time" ... but what is "er", in the first line? :)

Oh Donna, I found it ... "Take time to think ... it is the source of power." Should have Googled it before I asked! :)
