We began the week with photos from the CopperDog 150 dog sled race and we're ending the week with a series of them, too, an afterglow of the big event. Today's photos are thanks to Adam Johnson of Brockit Solutions, who had so many extraordinary shots of the event, that I had a hard time paring it down to the eight you see here. These photos take us right there into the action on the trails, providing some of the thrills we might otherwise not be able to partake of. Beginning with excitement of the teams taking off on Friday night in downtown Calumet, taking us along on the nighttime trails, careening around hairpin turns, up to the top of Brockway mountain and finally back to 5th street in Calumet for the finish of the race.

J. Ross Fraboni, of Ten Squared Racing out of Minnesota was the winner, coming in with a time of 12 hours and 24 seconds for the 150 miles of trails. Based on all the reports I've read, everyone involved with this event had a great time, from the dogs, to the mushers, to the team members, to the organizers, to the volunteers helping, to the folks that came out to cheer the teams on...everyone was excited to be involved. Sure is a wonderful way to promote the Keweenaw, too, as the success of this year's race can only bring more people next year and the years to follow, both racers and spectators alike. Congratulations to all involved, on a most successful event!

If you're looking for more information on the results of the race, you can find it here: 2011 Race Results.

Congratulations Mr. Fraboni, and everyone involved in all ways...Fantastic job!!

It's hard to tell who's smiling bigger...the dogs or the lady in picture #6! :D

Wonderful stuff!

Great photos Adam! It is probably the lighting, but the lead dogs in the first photo look like they starred in a Resident Evil movie.

The shadows in the 3rd picture look like a moose a wolf and a bear. Great shot!

The scene "Atop Brockway" above captures the feel of the wide-open spaces of the Keweenaw, like the sled is flying above the hills and the valleys. What a great collection of shots!

Love the Photos. We would love to have someone who could do this at our event.
