Joe Kirkish said he likes to visit to E.B. Holman school in Stanton Township, because it's always a wonderful experience. The pictures he shares with us, tell a story of their own, especially the ones of the smiling faces and enthusiastic recess play. Joe often stops by the school to present a slideshow, a travel show or even to talk about how to take a good picture and he said they're always "remarkably eager" to learn. He credits the Superintendent/Principal, Paul Saaranen for much of the enthusiasm you find amongst the students and staff. Joe says, "Paul will be leaving his position in March, much to our regret." It sounds like he will be missed by the many lives he touched there. Here's wishing you good luck Paul, on your future endeavors!

All the best Mr. Saaranen....Bless you for your life's work!

Are the kids in the last photo wearing Lions jackets? Die-hard fans!

Wow, the kids in Missouri schools don't go outside when it's cold. They need to take a lesson from the children in these photos.

Morning Glory,
Could it be that the Missouri kids haven't the gear for colder weather? The first photos show quite a selection but I do have one question - are those attached to the snow pants as they appear to be? I seem to remember chapped ankles from snow in the boots while playing outside.

What's going on in the street in the Calumet webcam?

By Paul H. Meier (Paul) on Saturday, March 5, 2011 - 04:24 pm:

Earlier this Winter in Scotland (if I recall)they were hit with rare snow and ice. Once the schools reopened, outside recess was banned because the kids might fall while playing. Same down here in central IL. They might fall, suffer a bruise, or worse, suffer diminished self-esteem, either of which could result in the parents suing the school district.

Never mind -- just checked What's UP? and got my answer

Yep, Paul H., welcome to "today's world"!:-] Funny, but I always thought that was part of being a kid....skinned knees, bloody noses, etc.

By Morning Glory (Lucylu) on Sunday, March 6, 2011 - 07:58 am:

Richard you are right. None of the children in my town are geared as efficiently as the kids in this photo. I think playing outside in the winter would be great exercise and even could condition to the children to cold temperatures. Looks like fun too! Too bad people are so sue happy. Greed.
