When E. Neil Harri invites you to come along fly-fishing with him, you'll be doing more than just fishing, you'll be his co-pilot for the day, too. This is Ed Schniederhan (his brother John keeps things running smoothly on the Internet, here at Pasty.NET), showing off what Neil said was the smallest catch of the day, out on Keweenaw Bay. It was Ed's first time trying out winter fly-fishing, so he was pretty proud of his catch, no matter if it was a monster fish or not.

That's Neil's ground crew, Brad Johnson and Molly in Neil's third photo. Brad is driving the "follow me" vehicle to airport parking, while pointing out a potential hazard that Neil should avoid. His dog, Molly is part of the crew on the ice and lends Brad a hand scouting out potential parking spaces, too.

Today's last photo comes to us via Dennis Hext, the Houghton County Airport General Manager. Dennis said that every once in awhile the airport webcam snaps a photo at just the right time and this shot is just such a time, capturing a beautifully, bright sunrise over the airport tarmac. Just think, for a guy like Neil, who flies from this airport on an almost daily basis, this is an everyday occurrence that greets him in the early morning hours before take-off. He's one lucky guy to have a great view from his "office" window both on the ground and in the air.

I've got to say you must be the envy of all those ice fisherpeople out there. What a way to fish.

There was talk about bringing out a trenching machine to cut a slot in the ice so we could troll with a 4 wheeler. Further thought led to the idea of waiting until spring and just using a boat.
Ed is building his own plane with the help of the EAA, Experimental Aircraft Association, at the Houghton airport. You may have seen his story recently on local TV. You can read about it here: Taking Flight
