Hi, everybody. I hope to get a lively discussion going on this topic, because I have very deep feelings about it and the topic is the loss of polka to our culture. When I was a kid, polkas were played on the radio every evening, and you could go to a polka dance nearly every night. Now, we have one polka radio show once a week and once polka dance a week, and that is in South Range, the stronghold of Copper Country culture.
I do not believe that I am alone in missing that style of music, especially when comparing it to the "stuff" that is played on the local radio stations nowadays. Please comment on this and let me know that I am not alone.

Whoop-de-doo, whoop-de-doo, I hear a polka and my troubles are through!

Many hours of polka music are available on the internet from a radio station in Cleveland.

My wife, our children (we have five), and I took a ride to Painesdale yesterday to shop at the pet store. On our way back toward South Range, we pulled over on the high point of the new road and looked out over the Copper Country, all the way from South Range to Calumet, and also the Huron Mountains. What a view. The land; the people; the culture...these are just a few of the reasons we didn't leave the Copper Country when I graduated college and couldn't find work in my field. I think it is as I've said in the past: The Copper Country is truly home; the rest of the world is flat.
