Snowman,
Thank you so much for starting this post. We're waiting to hear from Ben and Sharon about Ali, this morning...as Ali was in some pain last night.

I wasn't able to post to Ben and Sharon but I am still praying for Ali
and for them.

From there, click on 'Lounge'...and then 'Ali...'

Snowman, thank you for that link. That was really nice. I pray all goes well for Ali.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Monday, November 5, 2007 - 11:21 am:

Oh, my, those pictures will break your heart. I will keep Ali in my thoughts and prayers. There is nothing sadder than seeing your children suffer and being helpless to take away their pain and confusion. It is a miracle that her brother is a perfect match. Best of everything to the Lewis family.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Friday, November 16, 2007 - 07:31 am:

Here's an update from Ali's mom, Sharon:

Ok, so I thought I would check in. We are hoping to be going home by Friday! or at least to the R.M. House.... Then we come back on the 5th of Dec. to get her ready for transplant around the 12th... She will undergo some really intense chemo and then they will put Bennie out in the morning, Tenatively the 12th.... and then they will get the marrow from his hip and then sometime that same day they will enter it into Ali through her central line. then we will be here for at least 5 weeks after transplant and then we'll be at our 2times a week visits for 3 months then we'll go down to once a week then to once a month for the next 2 years.... so that is the plan so far.... Sorry I haven't been on in a while... I will try to check back more often!

ttyl...
Sharon

From Ali's dad, Ben;

UPDATE

Ali is doing well ... she has had a few incidents ... like ripping tubes and such out of her .. she ripped her broviak out!! the main line into her chest .. thats a long story and frightening .. it is still out but a sugery will be done to replace it .. also my wife informs me today the she pulled her feeding tube out!!! geeze she wants to be unhooked bad!!

We move into our new apartment monday afternoon!!! It is in Ann Arbor and is a really nice place! We have a phone number there and we have a new cell phone number that no one probably has I will post both tommorow!
I am heading to the UP for thanksgiving and to get all of our stuff .. to say fair well to my buisness associates and friends .. STILL NO JOB!! arg

I have been busy taking care of Bennie .. applying for jobs also!

Bennie has a cold so he cannot go to the hospital so neither can I!!! BUMMER .. I am concentrating on the move this week and hopefully I can snag some free internet from there like I do here.

Thats all for now ..

the bone marrow transplant is scheduled for like Dec 5th I think somewhere in there..

Note: Little Bennie, Ali's two year old brother, is the bone marrow donor. Ali's "big" brother is saving her life.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Sunday, November 25, 2007 - 09:26 pm:

Ben--We're all pulling for you. I will continue to keep your family
in my prayers.

By k j (Kathiscc) on Monday, November 26, 2007 - 09:22 am:

These people could really use any help you can summon. Ben is not working as he and Sharon had to move to Ann Arbor to be with Ali. The hospital bills are astronomical. With more procedures on the horizon, times are tough. Please, any help you can send will be greatly appreciated by the family.

Thanks Snowman, I was getting to that! LOL.

By Pennie (Trolldiva) on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 - 07:51 pm:

The family should check into Childrens Special Health care services. They pick up what the health insurance doesnt. It is an insurance thru the state of michigan that covers critically ill children or children with chronic illnesses that require a specialist. Abby's medical bills were killing us, CSHCS is the only thing that has saved us. The number is (248)424-7900.

Look what a tough "Little Yooper Girl" she is;

http://yooper.webzman.com/viewtopic.php?t=1153&start=150

Please keep her in your prayers.

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Sunday, December 2, 2007 - 06:33 pm:

Thanks for the update, Snowman. Amazing the progress she has made. That power of prayer.
Once she has the marrow transplant, is that it except for monitoring?

By k j (Kathiscc) on Sunday, December 2, 2007 - 11:11 pm:

This is what Sharon wrote on 11/14...."then we will be here for at least 5 weeks after transplant and then we'll be at our 2 times a week visits for 3 months then we'll go down to once a week then to once a month for the next 2 years...."

By k j (Kathiscc) on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 - 05:50 am:

Keep these young people in your thoughts today as Ali gets her bone marrow transplant....

By Snowman (Snowman) on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 - 08:19 am:

Hope all goes well for Yooper Ali and Yooper Bennie, you'll be in my thoughts and prayers today.

By k j (Kathiscc) on Thursday, December 13, 2007 - 10:04 am:

Update from Ben (edited slightly)

Here is a quick message

Bone marrow transplant complete. Bennie is making a good recovery .. sometimes he has difficulty walking but other than that he is doing well .. and Ali is doing good so far.. time will tell how she will do.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Thursday, December 13, 2007 - 10:48 am:

Thank you kj, sure hope everything turns out okay!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Thursday, December 13, 2007 - 08:54 pm:

I'm adding my prayers for Bennie and Ali too.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Thursday, December 27, 2007 - 05:55 pm:

Please pray;

I finally said that I was really getting concerned about her belly and the state she was in. She didn't even want to sit up... if you tried she pushed back so hard to lay down, She is in pain. So I told the nurse this and she got the doctor in again and finally they are doing something. They cathed her and still she is not well. So they are doing an CT scan on her around 4:30 it is now 3:00. But they said that if they can't sedate her enough to be awake and do it they'll have to put her under, if they put her under they will have to put a tube down her throat, if they put a tube down her throat and since she's so bloated she may throw up while under and if she throws up while under then she could spread fluid into her lungs and other places it shouldn't be and could cause Pnemonia. If I understand them correctly, if they do put the tube down her throat she will be in the Ped's ICU for a few hours on a ventalator. Or maybe that's just if she throws up??? Sorry I seem so airheaded lately. Lot on my mind. Ben is taking Bennie to a friends to be watched so if things get bad we don't have him here to worry about. Please pray for the best outcome. I asked them what they were looking for and they said for gas to be in an unusual place or a blockage in the colon or intestines or just anything that could cause her belly to swell so large. it went from 45 to 53cm. in one day! But this has been going on for at least 3 days now.

That is the latest from Little Yooper Ali's mom.

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Thursday, December 27, 2007 - 08:15 pm:

Thanks for the update, Snowman. So sad this little tyke has to fight so hard. I thought once the bone marrow transplant was over, Ali would just progress.
Well, we know the prayers work...so, guess it's time for a big group prayer.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Saturday, December 29, 2007 - 11:48 am:

An update from Ali's dad;

Well yesterday Ali threw up some blood and bile ... and today she has blood in her urine .. she is on a steady stream of pain meds so I don't see Sharon and Ali getting out this year!! So keep her in your thoughts and prayers she looks sick and stuff like she did when she first got here.

Please pray for her, she's only 8 months old.

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Saturday, December 29, 2007 - 02:22 pm:

So tonight,(last night)(I am here now), Ali was cooing and talking and Even smiling. It was so nice to see her smile again, it's been since Christmas day since we saw her last smile and even then there weren't many. Thank GOD for answered prayer and especially answering it the way we wanted it answered. Hopefully this is a good sign to recovery. Than you all for praying! God is SO good!

Sharon posted this last night-
TUESDAY, JANUARY 01, 2008 08:58 PM, CST
Today was a pretty good day, Ali's belly seems to be a little softer and less bloated. It is still bigger than normal but I think it is on it's way to improvement! YAY! She was in pretty good spitits again today and was awake a little more. We only had to push her button for morphene twice so far. She'll be getting a bath in a while and we usually have to push it for that, because she gets moved around quite a bit. She is still vomitting when taking medication but for some strange reason she doesn't seem to vomit the meds its mostly just mucus. She seems to love her mirror toy we got her for Christmas and I will post a pic in the photos area so you can see her playing today. Thank you all so much for praying, Please keep up the good work... God is listening!

I'm praying too.

By k j (Kathiscc) on Friday, January 4, 2008 - 02:42 am:

FRIDAY, JANUARY 04, 2008 12:49 AM, CST
I really don't even know where to begin... I will probably not be around in the forums for a while. The doctors came in this morning with some really bad news. They said that Ali's Leukemia is back at 33000 white blood cells from 21 this morning and 12000 yesterday. Same agression as before. She is only 20 days out from transplant so at this time there is nothing they can do in a way of curing her. They said that they could give her more chemo but that that would only prolong her life and not be comfortable for her. She already went through the most extensive chemo they had to offer before transpland and the Leukemia lived on through that. They are only giving Ali 1-2 weeks to live. We are still praying for a miracle. Thank you all for your prayers and please keep em comin! I will update when ever I get a chance but please know that this is really hard so I won't be posting much...

Ali and her family are in my thoughts and prayers. I do believe in miracles.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Saturday, January 5, 2008 - 07:46 am:

From Ali's dad, Ben;

here is an update..

Ali is happy and unhooked from most machines .. she is moving to arbor hospice with me and sharon and bennie tommorow ...

she will be there until the end or unless things get real bad..

we will not be giving her any life support to sustain her... these are very hard decisions there is no cure for her so we feel the best thing to do is to make her comfortable

they give her 1-2 weeks but only a few more days or maybe 1 week of awareness .. she will begin to get sluggish and need more meds to sustain pain very quickly

so time is what we are battling ..

we spend every awake moment with her .. this is hard on Bennie as well ..

we try to share our love with him but he is all we will have soon

both sets of grandparents are here

and our pastor from UP has performed an annointing with oil

this is a call to GOD to perform a miracle (pray)

other than that we encourage you to call or come and see our precious baby she/we would love to hear from you or see you ..

call me if we can make arrangments

after all is done we will be going back to Newberry .

this is about all i can say for now but i will keep posted as well as i can .. She recieved hugs and kisses from everyone who asked today ...

Oh Ben. I will keep praying.

By Scott D. (Pooch) on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 - 09:12 am:

O LORD OUR GOD,we approach Your presence, who alone can succour and save, beseeching you to look down in pity upon this Your servant, here lying in great weakness of body, under Your chastening hand. We know, O Lord, that with You are the issues of life and of death; that with You nothing is impossible; that if you will You can even yet raise Ali up, heal all her infirmities, and restore her to health. In entire submission to Your righteous will, we beg this mercy at Your hands. Spare her, O good Lord, and grant her a longer continuance among us. But whatever You have determined, let her soul be precious in Your sight. Give her true repentance for all the sins, ignorance, and negligence of his past life, and a lively faith in Jesus Christ. Wash her soul with the precious blood of Your dear Son, and sanctify it by and adorn it with the graces of Your Holy Spirit, that it may be cleansed from all its defilements, and be presented pure and blameless and without spot before You, in the great Day of Your power. Fit her, we pray You, for whatever in Your wise providence You hast appointed for her, whether life or death; that it may be unto her to live unto Christ, and if to die, that to die may be gain; and that in all things she may find cause to praise and glorify Your holy name. If You should be graciously pleased to raise her from her bed of languishing, grant that she may lead the residue of his life in Your fear and to Your glory. Or if You hast otherwise determined, prepare her for the hour of her departure; defend her from his spiritual enemies; finish all that is wanting in the work of her salvation; support and comfort Ali in her last agonies; make her end easy and peaceful; and fill Ali with an hope full of immortality. Finally, O Lord, receive Ali into the arms of Your unspeakable mercy, into the glorious state of Your saints in light, and give Ali a resurrection unto eternal life in Your heavenly kingdom. All which we ask, in the name, and through the merits and mediation of our Advocate and Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Amen.

For Little Yooper Ali who is now in Heaven;

Little Ali asleep in bed,
Mommy's hand upon your head.
Daddy holding back the tears.
Bennie, too young to know the fears.

Just sleep little girl, just sleep tight.
Everything will be all right.
God is waiting for you up above,
It's a place just filled with nothing but love.

Mom, Dad and Bennie will cry,
When the angel takes you up to the sky.
You'll all be together again some day.
Little Ali, let the angel lead the way.

It's okay for you to part,
You'll still be here inside my heart.
God only takes the very best,
Close your eyes little Ali, it's time to rest.

Dear Lewis Family,

We are so sorry about the death of your beautiful daughter, Ali. We wish we could find words that would relieve your pain, but we cannot imagine what they are. Losing a child is one of the saddest life experiences possible, and words of true comfort are difficult to find.

Please know that we are thinking of you in your sorrow. You have our sincere condolences.

In sympathy,

For Ben, Sharon, Bennie and family, in deepest sympathy:

Safely Home
by Unknown

I am home in Heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh! but Jesus' arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still;
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's Will.

There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth--
You shall rest in Jesus' land.

When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!
