These two photos from Donna MacIntosh and the story she related, sure gave me a chuckle. Seems that Donna was driving north on US-41, when she drove right by this scene and thought...NO WAY! So she pulled over to the side of the road and doubled back to snap some pictures. By the time she got back there, another motorist had pulled over and he was calling 911, so Donna did her part by blowing her horn to scare them off the road. Once they were safely on the roadside, she knocked on someone's door to try to find out who's cows they were, but no one was home. Figuring everything was under control and the police were on their way, Donna continued heading north. Out of one of the side roads comes an MSP cruiser. So, Donna hit her blinker, pulled over, dropped her window and asked if he'd gotten a call about loose cows. He chuckled and said, "No." So Donna proceeded to tell him the scoop. While she was relating the story, the call came in over his radio. Donna said he radioed them back to tell them he already knew, as he was looking at the pictures she was showing him on her camera. Now how's that for a "make you smile" kind of story? :->

Good story!

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 06:21 am:

Great story! Always nice to see people like Donna take responsibility in a situation like this and do their part. Also nice to know none of the bovines suffered any injuries!

I think Edie and I saw some of these same cows being rounded up between Chassell and Baraga.

By the way, in case you missed it, there's a run on Early Birds over on the What'sUP page.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 07:11 am:

Great story! I hope the cows all made it home safely.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 07:31 am:

I'll bet the owners were having a cow and that's no bull.

As a farm girl I love these pictures today! And I can personally relate to them! Except never failed, dad's cattle always got out in the middle of the night!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 07:49 am:

I believe those are the Chick-fil-A cows on their way to Georgia to attend their bowl game and spread the word to "eat mor chikin"........

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 08:02 am:

Did the state police find the cows' home? Good thing they're black and white cows and not tan...it is still bow season after all.

By Rick Koskela (Texasrick) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 08:08 am:

Even though it is going to be 70 here today, the the battle of life in the cold still looks good to me and I miss the Michigan winter.

By Richard L. Barclay (Notroll) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 08:41 am:

I'm thinking those critters parked their UFO somewhere nearby and are going to that home because of the signals from all those dish antennae! The heat from the microwaves has brought out the only green grass for miles.

By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 09:02 am:

Yes Donna these are a-moo-zing pictures today!!!

Here in the cities the police are known as black and whites for the colors of their cars..

By Dunerat (Dunerat) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 09:03 am:

Top photo is probably Gary Larson's camp.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 09:23 am:

I don't think the *Gateway* cow in the second photo wants a ride...I think she's wanting to get into the "mooooovies"! :)

By Gus LL (Gusll) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 10:28 am:

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 11:21 am:

Are ya sure those are Michigan cows? From some of the comments I'm thinkin' maybe Punsylvania!

By Liz B (Lizidaho) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 11:50 am:

Donna says "they are headed to California." In Idaho we get these ads for California Cows saying they have the best cheese and to buy California Cheese. So are the cows going to CA or to help their WI pals reclaim the title?

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 12:07 pm:

Hi
So, this gives a new meaning to "til the cows come home".

By Richard A. Fields (Cherokeeyooper) on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 - 12:52 pm:

Do cows give ice cream in the UP this time of year?

By Taana Kalliainen (Taanarae) on Sunday, December 7, 2008 - 11:32 pm:

Those have to be Gary Palosaari's cows. I live about two miles from there and didn't hear a thing. Glad nobody got hurt, human or animal.
