So let's do a head-count... everyone who's stopped and explored around Lake Bailey, raise your hand. Looks like there are a number of you out there. But I can't count myself in that number quite yet, so I'll just have to sit back and enjoy these photos taken by James Ludos, instead. Whenever we head UP North driving along on M-26 between Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor, one of us always comments as we pass by Lake Bailey, that we're going to have to take the kayaks up there some time and explore around it. It's one of those "round tuits" so many of us have. After seeing these two shots of the peace and quiet this spot exudes, it's definitely going to go on my "to do" list for our next Keweenaw outing. While there, we may as well take a hike along the Lake Bailey Audubon Sanctuary trail. It's a two mile hike to the south ridge and back again. I hear the views are spectacular and there are plenty of birds to see while hiking, so I'll have to pack my camera too.

Good morning.
My family and I visited this lake a few years ago when we were visiting the copper country.
very peaceful and pretty.

Looks like the lake is back to normal.......

Photo taken in 2006. Don't know the condition of the lake today......

I've also wanted to stop there too, but we're always in a hurry to get someplace else, namely Copper Harbor. Again, too many places to go with too little time.

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Saturday, July 12, 2008 - 10:03 am:

we stopped by there a few years ago. It is a very beautiful lake.

Another is Lake Michigamme, although there are now a lot of buildings going up around it taking away the natural appearance.

Hand raised! This is always a must stop to stretch and take it all in. Thanks for the info regarding the santuary trail.

By Tim Holland (Tholland) on Saturday, July 12, 2008 - 10:48 am:

That would be a quiet, serene place to kayak. You can see a lot more wildlife on a kayak than on a jet ski.

My hand is U.P. I've stopped there a few times and it certainly is a peaceful place. There have been several homes built on the north side of it in the last few years.

I used to drive by Bailey several times a week and got so I barely noticed it. That has been over twenty years ago, I'm very sure I'd notice it now.

By Danielle L. Adams (Badkid) on Saturday, July 12, 2008 - 01:51 pm:

Never been there...so can't count me in lol Probably been by there a number of times and haven't stopped though. Looks like a great place to stop and look around and maybe even camp out for a nite or two.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Saturday, July 12, 2008 - 02:11 pm:

Camp would be nice. But a quiet little cabin with basic necessities only would be ideal. (sigh)

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Saturday, July 12, 2008 - 02:42 pm:

My hands up, but it was many years ago. Didn't do it this time up. As Deb says just too many places, too little time!

Try looking at George's Eagle Harbor website and clip on Cedar Point Cabins under "Places to Stay".

I've put the canoe in there with my sons and paddled after beaver until they slapped tail and dove. Never caught much in the line of fish, but it was lovely enough that we didn't care.

My dad took my brother and I fishing here about 1949. I remember it well 60 years later - we caught our limit!
