Our team of researchers for Pasty Central's "Day in History" feature has brought to my attention many surprising facts about the U.P. and its heritage. What is surprising about Father Marquette is just how much he accomplished in his 38 years. Today's Pasty Cameo gives an overview of his life, and how he spent his last 2 years exploring the Midwest and the Mississippi River. On a journey that started from the Straits of Mackinaw, he only made it as far back as Ludington, though his final resting place is in his beloved St. Ignace.

If you are viewing this cameo before noon today, check back later (may require a reload in your browser) as I discovered some other items to add to the first draft.

Have a good week :o)

I have been a reader of this sight for the last 5 years but never have registered to send messages. I enoy all the comments and all the pictures.
My husband Tom and I are owners of a home in Eagle River. We are neighbors of Charlie. We love it there and will be permanent residents in the next year or two, moving from Sterling Heights, MI.
Can't wait for next week-end to make our first trip to Eagle River for this year. It is such a relaxing and beautiful place.

Love the shots! The pasty cameo was very interesting again. Thank you. I really hope you're seriously thinking about making DVD's out of all of these.
