Before you know it, the black flies and mosquitoes will be invading the area, so it's a good time right now to head to the park and enjoy the warmer weather and sunshine. In case you can't tell, this is a view from the Houghton Park, looking toward Hancock. See the bridge over on the right, trying to hide behind the branches of the trees? It's a perfect time of year to take a picnic lunch and spend an afternoon just relaxing, watching the birds, maybe bring along a book and just enjoy the day. You can see by this photo, courtesy of Justin Klenk, that there aren't many folks out and about in the park just yet, so hurry and get there before the crowds begin!

Spring picnic, river watching and reading sound so good. Wish we weren't expecting cold and heavy rain tomorrow, cuz I'd indulge. Picture looks so relaxing and hopeful.

Living here in Berkley we have an ordinace banning the raising of mosquitoes, black flies, and other pest.I have not been bitten here since the ordinance was passed. There is a five hundred dollar fine for harboring these pest. Either this works or during the Woodward Cruise Fest there is so much carbon monoxide that they can't survive. During that time the roar of the old cars is invigorating. I keep getting birthday cards with old cars on the front, the inside infers I am a classic. Having worked for Chrysler for all those years, you would think that the cars would be Chryslers. Nope everyone is a Chevy. Mother in law sent me to Woodcraft to shop and she paid the bill. Now I have this equiptment that I have to figure out how to use. Sky is blue, and it is warm out here in Berkley.Precious is trying to get out of bed, the alarm has gone off several times. What did we do before snooze alarms? My trike is still being built, seems to take as long as making a new car. Precious has shrunk so much that she can't see over the dashboard of her car. So she is driving my new van. The van has electric seats that raise her enough to see over the steering wheel. Sounds fishy to me. I think she just wanted the new car. Boy sure am gabby this morning.

I invite Jack Rowe to the Black Fly Open Golf Tournament (26th year) at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge in late May and get acquainted with our black flies. It's a fun tournament in which partners are selected from a hat, usually a good gofer with a poor one. It makes for an interesting day. Capt. Don Kilpela Jr. is the founder and director.

I meant "golfer," though judging from some of Ken Twardzik's divots it may and well be gophers.
