Through the years of the Pasty Cam we have had several glimpses of ice fishing in the U.P.

Ahhh....ice fishing. What a great pastime. I remember seeing the aerial photo in the not-too-distant past. A Neil Harri photo I believe, with Chassell in the background.

Good morning Heikki and all! I have many pleasant memories of ice fishing! Not much safe ice in our area this year.

Oops! Forgot to say good mornin'....tsk, tsk. Still kinda early here in the central time zone. Haven't had my first cup of java yet.

Good mornin' Paul and all.

I try and try to make the early bird but each time I miss it.I have come close to catching that little bird often but he always gets away.
came so close the other day that my cousin from detroit sent me a e-mail saying "almost"
so I crawl out of my bed this morning hardly able to see and click on the old pasty cam and what do you know, Heikki was up before me and the birds. congratulations Heikki.

Good morning! Thank God it's Satruday even though I have to go to work. The we have the grandkids overnight. Not much of a break. But they're a joy.

Good Morning, Everyone. Congratulations on your Early Bird, Heikki. Saturday is very welcome here, after a long week, the first full work/school week of the year! Have a good weekend, everyone!

I love all of those ice fishing pictures. I think the two lean-two shelters are really interesting, like the guy with his pipe. I thought fish could smell? I wonder what they would think of pipe smoke? :-)

One of my Favorite Movies is "Grumpy Old Men", where they are all hanging out in their shanties drinking 'Da Beer' and ice fishing. They had all the comforts of home in there! I have never been in the UP and ice fished, so the little teepee lean-two's were surprising to me. Is this something more modern? cause when I was a kid in Batchawana, I only remember the wooden ones out on the ice.

Good morning! The photograph of the Sturgeon River delta is one of my favorites! It's a great perspective for those of us who fish that area.

Yes, Grumpy Old Men is a classic for sure. The tepee shelters aren't common in my neck of the woods. Stick-built shanties (like in the movie) and collapsible shelters are the norm. I like the idea, though. They are light, easily stowed and can be inexpensively made......one of the joys of ice fishing, making your own equipment. Looking at the design of them (tepee), one would think a strong wind from the right direction would create a venturi effect and suck fish right outta the hole! I like the idea.... ;-)

Ahh, ice fishing, brings back so many good memories. There was one winter in particular that I am very fond of. I was ice fishing in a lake in the UP having the time of my life when the game warden approached me. He asked me for my permit and I politely told him that I wasn't fishing, I was just drowning my worm.
