Nothing brings a smile to your face faster than a grinning child. So if you're having a bad day, Ashlee Harvey's pair of happy faces should brighten things up. The wonderment never ceases, watching the Copper Country leaves spinning to the ground as they fall from their lofty beginnings. Ashlee has captured that on her boys' faces, as they explore the colored carpet below their feet, along with the rainbow of color lining their way back home. Those smiles are contagious, aren't they?

Boy do those pictures bring back great memories of childhood in the UP. There really isn't a better place to grow UP.

Good morning and adorable little guys.

They are having a blast! My sons cubscouts are doing their color hike this weekend.

If you have ever spent any time as a child under a pile of leaves, you know just how good it smells. That is one aroma that I will never forget.

Have a great Thursday everyone!

Beautiful shots! Long gone are life's simple pleasures, fresh air, a pile of leaves and your best buddy.

NICE! Oh that road pic reminds me of the days at gramma's farm in Bootjack....I wish I was there again right now!

It will be about 2 more weeks here before we can make piles of leaves with the grandsons to cover them up for "picture time". We are getting adventureus this year as we have bought one of those new "fandangle" leaf blower...
Want to thank Danielle for her pictures on the Boatnerd.com site of the SS ALGOMARINE delivering and unloading salt in Hancock..I believe it came into the canal via the Jacobsville Entry as it did when we were kids in the 40's and 50's.

By Carmen Makela (Mrsmaxx) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 11:12 am:

Eddyfitz, where on boatnerd.com did you find the pictures of the SS Algomarine, I tried looking but could not find them. Would love to see the pictures since I missed the boat coming in.

I was just up in Copper Country last weekend. I couldn't get the right week off for vacation for optimal fall colors, but we went to Hungarian Falls where the colors were absolutely at peak. Why are there no signs for Hungarian Falls? Is it like Douglas Houghton Falls where it is supposed to be off limits?

By D. Clark (Dcclark) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 11:07 pm:

Tim,

Nope, Hungarian Falls are quite open. I think that the lack of signs is a combination of several things. First -- nobody really wants to advertise and overrun them with even more people than usual. Second, the land (I believe) is owned by Lake Superior Land Company, and they may not want the liability of pointing people to potentially dangerous spots. There are a lot of opportunities for slipping and taking a big fall there! Finally, there are lots of directions for those who have heard of them.

I'm still sad about Douglass Houghton Falls -- the only falls in the Keweenaw (that I know of!) which I haven't seen.
