What happened to my "Happy Friday folks"? I was first right after Charlie and I got it in my e-mails, but now it's gone. What the heck did you do? Well David, I guess you got the bird then.

When you post a note before the daily picture is actually published, you run the risk of being wiped out in the final file upload, and winning the 'jumped-the-gun' award.

By Charles In Esky (Charlesinesky) on Friday, June 29, 2007 - 08:13 am:

At the Historical Society of Michigan Annual U.P. History
Conference given this last weekend at Ontonagon there was a
presentation on lighthouses . Terry Pepper put it on. He
focussed on lighthouses on the south shore of Lake Superior.
The program was terrific! If you ever have a chance to hear Mr.
Pepper, be sure you do so! His photos were wonderful, his
stories about visiting with many of the owners or historical
societies that run them were interesting, and his weaving them
all into a network run out of the headquarters in Detroit was
fascinating. I think Mr. Pepper is the head of some Great Lakes
Lighthouse Keepers group so he probably has programs on
lighthouses on Lakes Huron and Michigan, too, for those of you
downstate. So watch for Pepper programs, O.K.?

Oops, I put this on the wrong page. Sorry. Maybe with its being
only 37 degrees here in Esky today, it has caused my putative
brain to run a little slow, eh?

My post came AFTER the picture was up!!! I waited for it.

By FJL (Langoman) on Friday, June 29, 2007 - 08:43 am:

Well, at least you got another "jumped-the-gun" award Deb. How many does this make??? :)

By Cindy, Now in New Baltimore, MI (Cindy) on Friday, June 29, 2007 - 08:51 am:

Charles, how lucky you are to have seen a presentation by Terry Pepper. I have been fascinated by lighthouses for most of my life. His website is far superior to any other, in my opinion. It's so informative, interesting, and complete. For anyone who wants to know anything about the Great Lakes lights, see it for yourself at

I'm not going to be able to attend the Pasty Fest this year, due to family obligations, so I'm hoping someone that IS able to be there, will snap a bunch of pictures and upload them to their Pasty Guest Gallery Album.
If you don't have a Gallery Album yet, make sure you register on the gallery Login page.
Please send me an email letting me know you've added Pasty Fest photos, at: ....Thanks!
I'm hoping to use a few shots from the big event this coming week!

Only 7 more days then the soothing waters and sounds of Mother Superior for two weeks. Does anyone know if Chassel has their Strawberry fest next Sat? Last time we had to wait an hour for the parade. Not that we minded. Really enjoyed the people and unique floats and yummm strawberry shortcake.

Good Morning All.....A gathering of former Isle Royale employees will be held Friday afternoon and evening, July 6th at the pavilion at Houghton Beach (Chutes and Ladders). Both NPS and NPC employees who worked on the Island in the late 60’s and early 70’s will share stories and snapshots. All interested Island Folk are welcome to just stop by.

That photo almost looks like either the Geophysics field course or the MTU surveyors out on their field assignment.....

By Mooselover (Mooselover) on Friday, June 29, 2007 - 04:20 pm:

Maybe in the photo they are looking for Bigfoot, Sasquatch or "The U.P. Man". Yesterday's Chicago Tribune had an article about a group of scientists (cryptozoologists - pseudo-scientists, really) that is planning to come to the U.P. to look for Bigfoot. (I am not kidding!) They're going to be looking east of Marquette. AND they are also looking for people who have seen or had dealings with Bigfoot-type beings. Would that include any of you good people?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, June 29, 2007 - 04:53 pm:

Thank goodness the Dr. and I are "real" scientists studying real research topics ;-)

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Friday, June 29, 2007 - 05:02 pm:

Mooselover: I got a line on the Big Foot from a Manistique source. Landed in the Amarillo Globe News--who knew?
