Debra McCumber takes us back to Dickinson County and the Pine Mountain ski hill, this time with a glimpse of the buildings that sit up there and also with a view that's pretty hard to beat. I'm hoping that Debra or someone else "in the know", can fill us in as to what the buildings off to the right are. I'm thinking the ski chalet, but whatever they're intended for, one look at the view in the second shot and you'll realize what an awesome spot this is to survey the surrounding Iron Mountain area. Almost makes me want to strap on a pair of skis and experience it myself!

WOW! Wouldn't this be a great spot to live? Can you just imagine waking up to a view like this every day and watching the sunset every night? Only thing better is a place on Lake Superior!

Morning all. I am thankful for pictures like this. They bring soothing and peaceful feelings. I feel like I'm going to have a GREAT day after viewing those pics. Thank you. And keep them coming.

Some scenery to take in. Not wildly exiting, but rather the pleasant kind.

The building on the right is near the entrance to the ski jump itself (the ski jump is the gray structure). I believe it's just a small "waiting area". The chalet (Pine Mountain Ski Lodge) is at the foot of this hill and not shown on these views. We lived in Iron Mountain years ago and climbed to the top of the ski jump in the summer. Quite a view! It would be nice to see a picture from up there, too!

That is beautiful, I hope I get to see a view like that every day again.

Skiers are going upwards of 80 mph when they hit the end of that jump that you can see right behind the building. 356 steps to the top.

Used to be chairlift operator and guide in the summers at the resort...;o>

Beautiful scenery! We used to go to Indianhead Mountain every winter. I just loved to ski in my younger years. It was the most peaceful and relaxing feeling. It was just you and the slopes.

I can see that far out here, but what's the point with no hills and no trees. None if you ask me. Must be nice to take those kind of pictures.

The building to the right is a new informational kiosk outlining the history of the ski jump.

The ILSG annual meeting was held at Pine Mountain Resort in 2003. I wanted to climb the mountain and see the jump but time put a damper on those plans. I couldn't tear myself away from the meeting; too interesting ;-)

Another great vista is Copper Peak north of Bessemer. Many years ago I went on the tour which includes a cable car ride up Chippewa Hill to the base of the structure, then rode an elevator up and finished climbing stairs to the top. Once there, the views are incredible, especially during the fall. I remember the day I was there the sun was out but a bit windy, so the whole tower was swaying about 2 feet back and forth!!

Good morning everyone!

Here is a link for more information on the Pine Mountain Ski Jump:

We really do love living up here and can't seem to get enough of taking in all of the sights. That is my fiance Brock (getting married April 4th!!) and my beautiful Abbi in the top picture. We love to explore!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

~Deb

P.S.
Can't wait to see you later KJ! : )

I'll bet that is one heck of a place to be during full blown color season! Anyone have a pic of it then? I know it's a ski hill, but it just looks like it would be a breathtaking array of color in the fall with a brilliant blue backdrop of sky! Ahh now that's a therapeutic thought for we Yoopers that hate the winter and cold (I know that's blasphemy, but it's true, we exist!)

Ahhhhhhh! Looking at that picture I can almost breathe the crisp, clean air of the UP. It makes me feel better to know that not all air is as filthy & polluted as it is here in Jersey!
