The Pasty Cam of eight years ago featured heavy wet snow on the trees. No such luck this year, as the December snow drought continues. With a national championship cross country ski race just two weeks away, they've moved a snow-maker from Ripley to the Tech trails so the show can go on.

Good Morning from snowless MN!
Mr. Deb

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 08:55 am:

Every Christmas morning, when my kids were little, I read them the nativity story out of the big family bible.

When my son was old enough to talk, he asked me what a stable was.

I thought for a moment how to explain it to him in terms he could understand, then told him, "It's something like your brother's room, but without a stereo."

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 09:52 am:

I love this picture. We got it a little like that here today. More ice than snow, though.

By Roger (Rog1) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 10:46 am:

I haven't seen it mentioned here, so for anyone who is interested - Don Nelson, husband of Barb Nelson of Jacobsville passed away last week. They both posted to this site. The funeral is today according to the obituary

Don was retired from the Coast Guard and was know as a maritime historian. Condolences to the family.

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 10:59 am:

When my brother was little he was singing "Silent Night" and he was heard very sweetly singing "Holy infant so tender and wild"

By Eloise (Mrsbill) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 11:19 am:

The Philip R. Clarke has anchored in Bete Grise Bay on a beautiful sunny day. We couldn't figure out why she was here until we read the NOAA Open Lake Forecast for Lake Superior: GALE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM EST THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH
WEDNESDAY MORNING (it's posted in caps and red on the NOAA web site).

xx

Does anyone know when the winter fest is at MTU? The one with the ice sculptures? I know it usually is in Feb. but what dates?

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 11:48 am:

Mrsbill, thanks so much for posting the picture. I love to see the boat picutes.
Kathie, here is the link for you:

My sympathy to Barb, in the loss of her husband.

By Lorelei (Lorelei) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 12:07 pm:

Kathie,
You can go to www.mtu.edu to find out when winter carnival is. There is all sorts of info on that sight.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 12:12 pm:

Our sympathies go out to you Barb.

By Bob Gilreath (Bobg) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 12:54 pm:

lol I just received an email from a friend in Rhode Island. He said he just saw a travel channel show about Mackniaw City and wanted to know how far away i was because he said the pasty's looked good and wanted to try them.

Being the loyal Pasty.com person I am, I quickly steered him away from those cheap tourist knockoffs and showed him where to order REAL pasty's!

;-)

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 01:33 pm:

So sorry about the loss of your husband, Barb. May he rest in peace.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 02:18 pm:

That's pasties, not pasty's...pasty with 's means something belongs to the pasty. Sorry, I can't resist a grammar issue. I was taught very well at Ontonagon Area High School by Mrs. O'Connor and Mr. Klein. :o) Grammar mistakes are a huge pet peeve of mine. They sure don't teach English and grammar the way they used to. Sigh...

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 02:21 pm:

Yes, yes, I know I ended my sentence with a preposition. I should have said "They sure don't teach English and grammar the way in which they did."

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 02:42 pm:

Cindy, shame on you, young lady you are going to have to do some extra credit homework! You're lucky I don't make you stand with your nose against the blackboard. (tee, hee, hee)

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 03:38 pm:

Huked on fonix wurked fer me. I now speak more gooder English!!! ;-)

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 03:40 pm:

Oh, dear. I should not have admitted it. It is likely that no one would have noticed. How about if I bring the teacher an apple and a big, fat chocolate brownie?

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 03:54 pm:

Great Pic Mrs. Bill!

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 03:57 pm:

Forget the apple!

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 04:00 pm:

Captain Paul, mi inglish and speling don got urs beet, an my fonix ain't to bad neider.

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 06:05 pm:

Barb, I am so sorry to hear of Don's passing. My thoughts and prayers to you. I will always remember Don as "Bucko's" buddy! God Bless! Janie T.

By kathie Murto (Murtomania) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 06:17 pm:

Thanks for the information about the winter carnival. Bummer, I am going to the UP on Feb 14-20, Guess I will miss it. But I will get to see the UP 200!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 07:53 pm:

Cindy, I'm with you. Grammar, punctuation and spelling are gone down the tubes. It bothers me to no end. We were taught so well by our dear Mr. McKindles in Lake Linden's Business English class. To this day when somebody says "In regards to", I just cringe.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 08:09 pm:

How about iregardless? That is the one that bothers me.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 08:23 pm:

Yup, that's bad too, especially when it's spelled wrong. LOL

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 08:43 pm:

This English teacher says: "cut it out; you're making my job hard to do." Apples and brownies do not influence me--only good English.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 09:08 pm:

Not bad spelling, bad typing and not editing.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 09:42 pm:

Thank you Mikie!

By Danielle Adams (Badkid) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 10:14 pm:

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 11:35 pm:

Danielle Adams (Badkid):
"btw...how do you post a picture anyways here??"

Anyways you want!

(Help, I'm drowning in spelling, grammar, punctuation, typing, proofreading and editing - and it's giving me a headache!)

By Bob Gilreath (Bobg) on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 - 09:53 am:

A hugh pet pieve of mine are people who have to make a point of other people's mistakes. ;-)

By dlp (Babyseal) on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 - 11:38 am:

Bob, I agree. I wondered if that is why there seems to be a decrease in the number of people who post messages here.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 - 12:51 pm:

Bob, I really like your pictures of Hubbell and the surounding area Thanks a lot, sometimes it makes my day. I agree about the pet peeve.

By Danielle Adams (Badkid) on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 - 10:02 pm:

Frnash, call me dumb but i don't know what you mean by anyways. ive got a gallery but i meant getting a picture in a message on the boards here. i see no way to load a pic on here besides in the gallery.

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 - 10:18 pm:

Sorry Danielle, that was just an extremely bad joke - not directed at you. See Wednesday's What's up for your answer.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 09:49 pm:

"Huge", not Hugh, please. "Peeve", not pieve. We never make misteaks 'round here, 'eh? ;o)
