I'm sure each and every one of us has memories of gathering together with our siblings for a Christmas picture like this group of youngsters snapped by Frank Anderson. We all know from experience (or trying to photograph our own children) that it's virtually impossible to get everyone to say "cheese" at once and of course there's usually a "ham" in the bunch too. This shot looks like it could be a pose for a possible Christmas card or maybe a gift for Grandma this year. If it wasn't for the evergreen branches and lights strung behind the kids, you might think it's an Easter photo. The weather has been the topic of conversation lately here in the Keweenaw, that's for sure!

By Anna Roehrich (Updreamer) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 08:24 am:

The kids are adorable, but the weather is nauseating! One of the many reasons I dream of leaving NJ and moving to the UP is for the SNOW. I don't think I'd be a happy camper if I was up there right now!

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 08:28 am:

Beautiful kids but I don't think the baby is too happy!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 08:36 am:

Even if there's no snow in the Keweenaw, I'd still be a happy camper (or resident) just to be up there. Anything is better than 82 and humid in SE Texas; blah!!

By Anna Roehrich (Updreamer) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 08:44 am:

I'd have to agree with you, Capt. Paul, a snowless UP certainly beats 82 and humid any day!

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 09:16 am:

Holy cow, the baby looks upset! It's because I have all the snow down here.

By JARMO ITÄNIEMI (Japei) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 10:33 am:

FRANK -- quite madly magnificent albums are You!! All I look .. .also this picture is so fine and nice!

By Tom Karjala (Tom) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 10:50 am:

Margaret the snow is in Texas???
And Joanie, the gonna be Yooper, where is Morris? Northwest Illinois? I was in Galesburg for 30 years and moved as close to the UP as I could without being in it. Green Bay.

Happy Holidays to everyone from stormy Wyoming!

By Shelly Harwood (Shelly) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 11:17 am:

Want snow? Talk to the people in Denver, I'm sure they would share!

I know I would be glad to have some here in Houston! All we've had is rain and fog.

Merry Christmas!!

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 11:29 am:

Just talked to someone in Denver. She said it's a huge storm even by Denver standards. The airport was CLOSED for a time, the interstates were CLOSED for a time. WOW!!!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 11:53 am:

I'm sure the baby is upset because he (or she) just found out the Packers probably aren't going to make the playoffs this year :(

Sherry, I'm with you!! It's not supposed to be rain, fog, and 80 in December!! Although I hear the hill country might get some snow by Saturday......

By JARMO ITÄNIEMI (Japei) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 12:07 pm:

Hello dears friends all! This from our Christmas card; http://groups.msn.com/joulu06

Tom K.,
Not to debate, but I always thought that the closest you could be to the U.P. without being in it is Niagara, WI., one of the sweetest little towns in that state. I always enjoyed passing through around Christmas time; they really know how to decorate for the season.

Nice to see a Christmas Greeting from Finland! I have my 6 year old convinced Santa lives in Finland and we might be descended from elves. We will see how long that fly's?

By Sdcferndale (Sdcferndale) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 01:01 pm:

Yes, its very nice of Jarmo to send a Christmas greeting to us pasty.com people. I have my Finnish Christmas ornament on my tree every year with the Finnish word for Merry Christmas.

Everyone have a safe and Happy Holiday....

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 03:36 pm:

I think the baby is mad 'cause she's getting squeezed too tight. Or it could be gas.

By Tina Hyrkas (Tinahyrkas) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 04:50 pm:

HI TO THE ANDERSONS!
I HEARD YOU'RE NOT SEEING ANY SNOW UP NORTH! I LIVE IN DENVER AND THIS IS WHERE IT IS!!! YES, THE AIRPORT IS STILL CLOSED. THEY WERE ABLE TO SEND IN BUSES TO THE AIRPORT TODAY TO PICK UP THE 5,000 PEOPLE THAT WERE STRANDED THERE OVERNIGHT. NOW THEY ARE BEING BUSSED TO DOWNTOWN DENVER WHERE THERE ARE ACTUALLY VACANCIES IN HOTELS, ETC. IT'S JUST INTERESTING TO WATCH THIS STORM HIT DENVER BECAUSE NOBODY HAS AN "SISU". PLUS, THE STORMS DON'T HAPPEN ENOUGH TO MAKE IT WORTH THEIR WHILE TO BUY PLOWS AND SNOWBLOWERS. HEE HEE. ANYWAY, THE SNOW IS NO LONGER COMING DOWN, EVERYTHING'S LOOKING UP AND THE SUN IS EVEN BEGINNING TO PEEK THROUGH THE CLOUDS.

By Tina Hyrkas (Tinahyrkas) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 05:00 pm:

I'm not sure how to upload photos here, so for anybody cares to see what fell from the sky in a little over 24 hours...this link should work.

Pictures are great Tina. We were stationed in Denver in 1969 and in Oct.,they had one of those storms. One thing, its melts fast at that altitude. Love the Mountain scenes.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 05:49 pm:

There's nothing as bad as a baby with gas, except a husband with gas that snores!

I would like to post a message for people who live in the Calumet area. A co-worker has lost her 4-year-old female Malamute dog. The dog is blind and wandered away Tuesday evening. The dogs' name is Unni. They live on Rockland Street in Calumet. If anyone sees this dog please call John & Carol Desiatto at 337-5958. Help make their Christmas wish come true.

Thanks, Japei, for the Christmas card from Finland. I always enjoy your posts and your links.

By Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 08:58 pm:

We are actually getting snow flurries here in Ontonagon. So far no sleet, like they predicted! Would rather have snow any day! Might be a white Christmas after all!!!!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 10:05 pm:

Happy to be in the UP-- Hope you're right. We're hoping to see
snow when we go UP next week.

By Danielle Adams (Badkid) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 11:39 pm:

sorry for all who ski's & snowboards and such. it is making me sooo happy not to see snow but i know it isn't helping the businesses here none. if it can hold off til after christmas that'd be awesome. 10 years ago we had a green christmas here in the u.p. and im hoping this will be one too, starting to look that way. but as always, it won't last long as the snow comes sooner or later.

By Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Friday, December 22, 2006 - 06:49 am:

So far we only got freezing rain after that bout of snow, so who knows now? It's up in the air!

By Danielle Adams (Badkid) on Friday, December 22, 2006 - 06:49 pm:

where you at lahelo? we didn't get anything in atlantic mine up until about 3pm this afternoon when it started raining. we have snow currently coming down though.
