Color, color, color. It reminds me of that original jingle on the Wonderful World of Disney: "The world is a carousel of color." Eight years ago, the Pasty Cam caught the color at the Jampot on M-26 between Eagle River and Eagle Harbor.

Driving back up from Jackson yesterday, it was interesting to watch the progression of color in the northern lower, then from east to west in the Upper.

Morning! The color is gorgeous. We'll be seeing a lot of it between here and da UP when we leave on Thursday morning.

Morning All!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 07:53 am:

Deb--We'll be checking the colors out once we're there and on the
way back to Toronto. We leave Friday after work. There will be five
of us in the car. Four of us will take turns driving, the fifth, the
dog, gets to snooze the whole way. Guess that's what that
expression "Lucky Dog" means. Enjoy your trip Deb and Mr. Deb!

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 08:02 am:

We're coming UP Friday, leaving the Flint area bright and early. Our van will be parked in the above parking lot as we buy hermit cookies, sugar cookies, and maybe some pear cinnamon jelly. We'll spend Saturday in the Harbor (eating at the Harbor Haus, or maybe Lac LaBelle if colors are at peak there). Might stop at 10-foot, north of Phoenix. Very pretty there in the fall. Sunday we usually go to the Porkies at this time of year. As we left the Porkies last year, we turned right and enjoyed a very colorful road. Also have to do Silver River Falls north of L'anse, my favorite falls, especially at this time of year. It smells so good. If possible, we'll eat at the Ambassador Sunday (tostada pizza). If you see someone in a white sweatshirt that says "Marsha, Genesee/Aura" that's me!

Kosk and Marsha, Enjoy your trips too. Marsha will look for you if we happen to go to the Ambassador on Sunday. We're hoping the Hut is going to open on Saturday and take my parents out for pasties. Kosk, sure wish we could somehow meet. Maybe some other time. That Lucky Dog, LOL I'm sure Maddie will be sleeping in the back too.

Beautiful pics - as always. They remind me of the color in the
woods we saw this past Saturday. My sister-n-law, Sue, lives in
Watson, and she suggested that my wife and I suspend packing
our 200 plus boxes of stuff (we moved back to Esky last week
after 42 years first in Ann Arbor and then in Adrian) and come
out to visit. Then she took us to Anderson Lake to hike in the
woods for two hours. Oh, my, was that wonderful -- and
topped off by a nice lunch at a big new log cabin restaurant not
far from Quinn. I kept wondering if we were near Ken and Mimi
who write often on this site. My sister-in-law, Sue, is married to
a fellow named Ken so whenever I see Ken and Mimi in Cornell
, I think of my Ken and Sue not far from them in Watson.
Now we will see if Mary will accept this message from a fellow
no longer in Adrian

Just returned from St Ignace. The color from West Branch to the bridge was excellent. Color on the way to the soo also. Wish I could have gone all the way!

Charles in Esky- That big new log cabin restaurant outside of Gwinn is about 1/4 mile from our house. It is named Up North Lodge & it just opened a couple of months ago. It's very nice & they have good food. Especially their ribs!!!The old one restaurant burnt down about 3 years ago.I'm in Lansing to welcome our new granddaughter Mallory. She was born on Sept 27th .

Marsha, 10 foot is one of my favorite stopping places. It's beautiful in the fall and the power of the river in the spring is awesome. We were UP last weekend and the colors were just wonderful. Didn't make it to the Ambassador - we'll just have to wait for the Thanksgiving trip for that one!

By Pennie (Trolldiva) on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 07:25 pm:

Congrats on the new baby cotton!! You must be a proud grandma. You will have to plan Mallory's first trip to da UP.:)

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 - 09:32 pm:

Hei Charley in Esky, Welcome to da UP! Ken and Sue are friends of ours. They live close to the Watson Bible Chapel, where we attend church. Have been past the UP North Lodge many times, but one day soon will stop in. It is very beautimous. Mimi and I got up early yesterday to go on a bus tour to Mackinaw Island. Very foggy on the way out and to St. Ignace, but about 1/2 way to the island it cleared up. We really had a nice day. Mimi's first time to Mackinaw. Came home with a little fudge. Mmm-m.
