Some folks grow flower beds. Others nurture entire gardens of beauty while getting quite creative with the receptacles they use for displays. Ashley Byykkonen recently had the opportunity to visit with a lady we'll just call Beegu and her lovely gardens. It's quite obvious from today's photos that this lady loves decorating her corner in the Keweenaw, with nature and recycled items for use in her displays. Sure looks like the perfect place to stroll around and leave all your worries and troubles behind for awhile. Just in case you need to do just that, you can click on this slideshow and take a virtual walk through Beegu's world.

That slide show was so beautiful, I watched it twice! Amazing place and the pictures really capture the serene beauty.

I too enjoyed the slide show- I would love to use them to show my class at school. The closeups are terrific examples. School starts on Monday so I am back to that mode of thought. Enjoy your weekend

I knew that had to be Beegu's place by the first picture. Thank you, Ashley, for bringing me on a visit that I have not been able to take personally for 14 years. Beegu is a dear friend and I can see that she has been very busy in those years since I was there!! Their place always had a bit of magic and I can see it has even improved over time. Beegu, if you happen to read these messages (or if anyone can let Beegu know) I miss you and wish I could be sitting with you on that swing and catching up on old times.

I've known Beegu since I was about 3 or 4 years old. Her family has been friends with my family for years and years. In fact, I've been told that I was named after her grandma.

Great photos of a magical place.

I believe Beegu loves blue as much as I do! What are those wonderful blue flowers near the end of the slideshow?

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Friday, August 11, 2006 - 03:49 pm:

I can't believe how beautiful the first pic makes my background. Only Mary Englebreit-Red Hatters can love the hen house as much as me!!!! Makes a great end to the week. Maybe this needs to be May's Picture on the calendar.

By patricia landman (Tricia) on Friday, August 11, 2006 - 04:45 pm:

Ashley, your pictures are just wonderful. Beegu was a classmate of my sister's and a few years back I met her at an all-class reunion. What a lovely, fun lady! Thank you for the beautiful contribution you made!

Gorgeous pictures of the flowers. The rest of your album is also beautiful Ashley, thanks for sharing them.

Beautimous pix, Ashley. Took almost an hour to see 'em all, but worth it! That pale blue flower in the middle of the show, is it a wild chickory? Sure is a pretty one.

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Saturday, August 12, 2006 - 05:00 pm:

Ken -- If that's chicory, it's paler than any I've ever seen before, but it certainly is pretty, whatever it is. Do you know what the big round blue flowers are near the end of the show? The head is make up of lots of individual flowers -- it's very showy.
