Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 07:50 am:

Summer and highway construction in the U.P. seem to be inseperable. Eight years ago this stretch of US 41 by Houghton County Airport was being widened. The current projects which are causing detours and delays are the twin jobs of 5 mile point paving and upgrade of the bridge near Phoenix on M-26. For those of us here in Eagle River it blocks the 2 most direct routes to Calumet. They actually have the detour doubling back through Eagle Harbor and the 'cross cut' road - adding almost 20 miles to a 15 mile trip.

All roads will lead to Calumet on July 1 for this year's PastyFest, headed up by the hardworking crew at MainStreetCalumet. The competition in our 2006 PastyFest Poetry Contest is heating up (and, by the way, you can have more than one entry if inspiration strikes twice). Also, a couple thousand pasties will be heating up for noon lunch on the 1st of July, with the first 500 to show up receiving theirs free from the Pasty Central booth.

By Mike R New Berlin WI (Miker) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 09:00 am:

The disccussion last week about muscle cars got me wired, so, we took a jaunt to Volo Illinois again. They have about 300 "classic" cars on display, and for sale, at all times. If you want to check it out, go to volocars.com. Great place.

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 09:23 am:

The muscle car talk last week had me reminessing about our past cars. Bob and I did some pondering this past weekend, with the thoughts that we both turn 50 this year, and we celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary this year, so we bought our gift, an '89 Red Corvette!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 09:36 am:

Hmmm, sorry for stirring up memories!! I just wanted to ask Mikie about my car seeing how he worked at Chrysler for so many years Now look what we caused, lol.

Oh, and for those interested, I now have a photo gallery (thanks to Mary for finally twisting my arm enough ;-) and I included a pic of our Roadrunner, as well as some other neat UP pictures. Ok, enough of the shameless plug!!

By Suzanne Primuth (Suzanneprimuth) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 10:00 am:

Good Morning-I thought this might be a good place to ask. Does anyone know anything about M`ein`ere's Disease? It has something to do with the inner ear. I have had about 5 visits to the emergency room in the last month and think I am going crazy! Vertigo and nausia until I collapse. Help!!!

By dlp (Babyseal) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 10:21 am:

Suzanne, I feel you for, my mom had something along the line of Meinere's and it surely made her sick. She recovered nicely. Here is a resource that I use frequently in my employment: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/menieresdisease.html
You can search from that link. I use it for info on drugs also.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

By lz (Llamamama) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 10:23 am:

Babyseal - excellent advice!

Suzanne, medlineplus, does an excellent job and has proven very accurate in the many times I have referenced it.

By Mike R New Berlin WI (Miker) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 10:31 am:

Suzanne. My wife has that. She found a doctor in Hales Corners Wisconsin that specializes in it. She hasn't had an attack since she started taking a Dioretic. (sp) Good luck.

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 10:49 am:

Suzanne, sure hope you can find relief for that! Doesn't sound good to have!

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 11:06 am:

Suzanne, it is an inner ear infection and boy it can knock you for a loop. Read about it and ask many questions. Sometimes all they give you is a diuretic and that doesn't help much, so investigate. (used to be a nurse)

I'm ba-ack! (That was my Jack Nicholson impression.) Left for the UP early Friday. Ate lunch at the Cut River Inn, which is always delicious. Got deli food from Pat's for dinner. Hubby got the knee-high grass mown. Then we went back to L'anse to the drive-in for ice cream. WE HAVE A MOOSE NEAR OUR COTTAGE! Of course, I never spotted it. Had a very small s'mores party on our shore. Saturday we took the long trek to eat at the Harbor Haus, stopping at the Jampot on the way. Have to take the long way around to the Jampot due to construction, but it's worth it. Our lunch was delicious, pork cutlets in veal sauce. No one can make steamed vegetables taste as good as Harbor Haus does! Then back to Walmart and on home. LOTS of deer this year! Sunday we had our tostada pizza fix at Ambassador. ALMOST got a wonderful picture of TWO herons together. Did get a picture of an almost newborn fawn in the road. Didn't take a lot of pics or videos as I've taken the same pics already. Weather was wonderful: 59 to a high of 67 in the daytime. Nights were upper 30s to mid-40s. No rain, no bugs. Just read in the Flint Journal about a guy who will be hiking across the northern UP ending up in Copper Harbor to raise money for the Nature Conservancy. He starts the end of June so at that time I will post the link for anyone who wants to read his blog. Just had my 4-year old granddaughter and her friend boisterously enter the room, so my thought process is gone!

By Suzanne Primuth (Suzanneprimuth) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 01:15 pm:

Mike in New Berlin-Doctor's Name please!! I am not that far from New Berlin! I am taking Meclizine (prescription Dramamine) and Prochlorper three times a day and would like to not have to feel so tired all the time. We are planning our trip to Fort Wilkins the first two weeks of August so I would like to get this under control by then. Thanks everyone-I knew I could count on you.

By Mike R New Berlin WI (Miker) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 02:33 pm:

Suzanne. Dr. Steven Harvey. Ear specialist.
(414) 529-3215. 11035 West Forest Home Avenue, Hales Corners, WI 53130. I believe my wife had to be "Referred" to him.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 06:16 pm:

Thanks, Mary, for providing the link to Capt. Paul and Dr. Nat's photo gallery! We finally got to "meet" you two! I looked through it quickly and will spend more time going through it again when I have a spare minute or two.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 06:28 pm:

Trollperson, Where you going?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 10:24 pm:

Uh oh, thanks to Mary, I guess I'm a marked man now ;-)

By AJ - WI (Ajinwi) on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 10:33 pm:

Very interesting photos from Capt. Paul and Dr. Nat's gallery. The key here is having someone tell me what I am looking at. Fascinating! Thanks.

Sixteen days and I'll be traveling down those roads that are pictured! Guess I'll head for the kitchen to bake and do a little ironing.

By Danbury (Danbury) on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 - 10:48 am:

Dunno, Ms. Katie. If it's anything like here, maybe it's too hot to type! (30°C)
Saw a refreshing 12°C for Houghton yesterday - made me jealous ...

By Betty Paull Colborn,AZ (Betty) on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 - 02:49 pm:

Capt. Paul..Your pictures are wonderful..you and Dr Nate are a good-looking couple, the car is sharp.....but the banded rock from Marquette was breathtaking. You two must come back, we need you..does Texas need you?.....can you tell us where is that rock in Marquette?
