Usedtobeayooper--

Enjoy your time together. Does he go to the
UP with you and your husband?

Thanks. Our foster daughter, now living out on
her own, will have dinner with us on Sunday.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 08:02 am:

Kosk, When I told him we were going he asked if he should come. I told him it was up to him and he's decided he should come and play some pinocle with gram and gramp and talk some sports with grandpa. He figures grandpa needs someone to argue with. My family's too funny! We show how much we love each other by arguing about stupid stuff to see who comes out the winner. My son said that grandpa needs to argue with somebody who actually knows something about sports. You'd have to know us to understand! (Maybe you wouldn't want to.)

Deb,I would.

By Charles in Adrian (Charlesinadrian) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 09:50 am:

Oops, sorry about putting my Karelia comment on the wrong
page. I suppose I should even things out by mentioning on this
page how wonderful those Alger County falls are. This summer
that has to be a project to see those falls -- with a stop at the A
& W in Munising to get one of their wonderful whitefish
sandwiches. "Yum, yum" as Sara says on the Food Network.

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 09:51 am:

Deb....Deb... here's your chance to get out the old tape recorder, a mess of tapes (bring plenty) and record your dad and son kibitzing and sharing! It's perfect, and get in some family stories. I'm so excited for your oppertunuties. Don't waste this chance. When are you going, a few weeks? Talk to your dad and mom like you're just trying to remember something "mom, what did you say your dad did for a living?" and "who was the oldest relative you remember knowing when you were a little girl?" That way it's more a conversation rather than an interview" Get it? Go for it, girl.

I do believe that's snow on John Dee's trailcam! I heard there was snow in the western U.P. this morning.

Thank you Janie and Fran :) That is too funny...a snowman and a flamingo in the snow shot at the resort...no where else but da UP, eh ;) I wonder if Charlotte has been doing her snow dance.

Usedtobeayooper, Glad to hear that your son is home from college for summer break. Enjoy :)

Ms.Katie, Definately a great idea to tape our histories, while the opportunity is there. How I remember as a little girl, sitting on the floor in my grandparents' home...next to my grandpa...and listening to him tell stories about 'back in the day'. How I relished those stories and wish I could pop in a tape, and listen to his voice and our history, once again.

CharlesinAdrian, How's that house search going, in the UP? :)

By lz (Llamamama) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 02:01 pm:

So many good pictures today - so little storage space for backgrounds yet to come!

I have a new goal - to visit/revisit more UP waterfalls.

Thanks also for the Krupps connection. My boss was just saying a couple of weeks ago that certainly there is no snow in the UP at this time of year, that it is not like the mountains out west (guess where he is from?). Dare I send him the pic - ouch, then he would know "what else" I am doing on work time....;o>

By JARMO ITÄNIEMI (Japei) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 03:23 pm:

GOOD EVENING!

Today perhaps SUOMI is number 1.. .

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 06:34 pm:

My son was always wanting to tape Grandpa telling his stories so one summer he took his tape recorder on vacation with him. He knew Grandpa would be self concious talking to a machine so he set it behind the oil stove when he got to talking. We have about 5 or 6 tapes full
of family stories from when he arrived in the U.S. Now that my Dad is gone they are precious to us. He loved talking and laughing and you can hear it in his voice. So Deb, it would be nice if you took the recorder along also:)

By a m hill (Lvcamnotes) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 07:27 pm:

regarding the brief discussions of karelia the
past 2 days on whatsup and pastycam: isn't there
an inspiring composition by the finnish master
composer sibelius titled 'karelia suite'?

By Downstatedon (Downstatedon) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 09:14 pm:

a m hill; Could you hum a few bars of that composition for us?

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 09:19 pm:

Sur5er, I haven't been doing the snow dance. Almost wish I had, this rain and dark day is really a bummer. I have a little over 2 inches in my rain gauge since Wednesday night. Tonight they are haveing the Relay for Life at my school. What terrible weather for all of those good people to be out in. Supposed to rain of and on until Tuesday. The river will be running over it's banks soon.
Have a great Mother's Day to all you Moms out there.

By Charles in Adrian (Charlesinadrian) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 09:22 pm:

Thanks for asking, Sur5er. A retirement, a talk to give, a
program to put on, etc. are sort of keeping us grounded here in
Adrian for a while.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 10:23 pm:

Deb S. (usedtobeayooper) Were you looking for a pic of the old S.S. SOUTH AMERICAN back in April? I sent one to Fran but couldn't get an e-mail address for you.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 10:27 pm:

You betcha Japei!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, May 13, 2006 - 07:54 am:

Ken, Yes I was and if you click on my name I think my e-mail address comes up. Nope, I checked and it doesn't. It's (don't laugh now) abnormal@lkdllink.net. My husband has a sick sense of humor. I'd love getting a picture of that ship.

Ms. Katie, What a wonderful idea. I am going to talk to my son and husband and see what we can work out. Once they're gone you so want to remember their voices and listen to them tell their stories one more time. I know cuz I still miss my grandparents and all the stories they told. Can't really even remember what they sounded like (except for my grandma D. She was my favorite and I'll never forget anything about her). Anyway, thanks for the great idea. We're going up for Memorial Day. Hopefully will remember this.

Thanks Fran, I'll do that. It's also a good idea to record young grandchildren and all the cute things they say. Cuz once they're grown, it's too late. My grandchildren say the funniest things as I'm sure everybody else's do too.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Saturday, May 13, 2006 - 09:24 am:

Charlotte, I agree with you, snow in May would be so much better than the rain and the gray dismal days that come with the rain. At least when it's snowing, you can go outside and enjoy it.

Charlesinadrian, Don't let too much keep you from your dream home in the UP ;)
