No matter what angle you choose to view this lighthouse from, it's stands out quite well with it's red coat of paint. That's the Marquette Harbor Light featured today, by Katie Keranen, who seems to have made the rounds to get a couple different vistas of this picturesque light. Sure looks regal as it sits upon the rocks overseeing water travel on the central portion of Lake Superior. It's nice to see the snow receding and the water looking so inviting too. Before you know it, this light will be guiding recreational boaters in the midst of summer!

Isn't that absolutely gorgeous! I'm a lighthouse fanatic so it was great to grow up where I did.

I've been out on the breakwater. Great view! I love Marquette! Presque Isle is a jewel....

I'm a lighthouse fanatic, too. Thanks for the great pics!

I grew up listening to the diaphonic fog horn calling out from the north end of the Marquette harbor. For all you want to know of the old mechanism try this address:
We'd be playing in the sunshine well inland and hear those tones rolling in from the lakeshore. Seemed so much more caring than the blatt of todays warnings.

I also love lighthouses :) Wow, do these pics of the lake make a person homesick, or what? (sniffle, sniffle)

Great picture today and a good way to start the day here on the shores of Lake Erie..We get to Marquette many times a year on the way north and enjoy the view and the museum.

Eddyfitz, Do you live in Michigan or Ohio, on Lake Erie? The reason I ask, is that for most of my life, I lived on/or by Lake Erie...in Monroe County by Sterling State Park...and then in Erie Michigan.

Good morning from Mishawaka, IN. Great pictures of the lighthouse. As another lighthouse lover it is always good to see pictures of them. Hoping to see some new ones on this summer's vacation around the great lakes.

Hi there! We love the lighthouse shots. Really great reward after winter.

Right now I have my class working in the computer lab and I'm showing them the gorgeous Marquette Harbor Lighthouse picture today projected on a big screen. We did a unit on lighthouses a while ago, and we will be visiting a real lighthouse on a field trip next month (Fort Gratiot in Port Huron). Thanks for the beautiful picture. Photographing lighthouses is my favorite hobby.

Several years ago we took our son's 4th grade class from Houghton out to the old Jacobsville Lighthouse. At that time it had been in my family for many years (it is now a B&B). Funny to see how some of the big wigs in class turned into chickens when it came to climbing the tower!!! The kids loved the experience and also learning some history about those local landmarks! I have some gorgeous pictures from that fieldtrip as it was a clear, beautiful Spring day. Fun memories. Some day those kids might look back and realize how fortunate they were to have been able to actually climb a lighthouse tower!!

Nice pictures of the light house. I just looked thru a book with awesome pictures of the lighthouses all around in Michigan.
Have a great weekend people!!! (Can you imagine it's Easter next weekend???)

By Cindy, St. Clair Shores, MI (Cindy) on Friday, April 7, 2006 - 01:20 pm:

Kids do really love learning about lighthouses. You are right about climbing the towers. The kid that seems to be the toughest is sometimes the one who just can't handle it. For the ones that make it to the top, it is an experience like none they have ever had. I think they will always remember the feeling of standing on the balcony with the wind blowing on their face and looking over the lake from that perspective (it doesn't even matter which one it is). By the way, I'm not sending this at school now. We had a half day because we have been there the last two days and nights for conferences and we are rewarded with a half day today. Have a great weekend, everyone.

I love lighthouse pictures, too. I collect various lighthouse stuff, and the license plate on my car has a lighthouse!
Thank you.

This pix makes me so homesick...but we'll be UP for Easter and can smell the air, hear the waves, breathe in the fresh air and smell the pines....

Lovely, lovely pictures Katie!

I spent many a childhood day on that beach with my family under the benevolent gaze of that lighthouse. Little Rock, Big Rock, Long Rock and the Kiddie Pool. What a wonderful place for little children to learn to swim and older ones to explore!

My mother used to take me and my brother and sister down there in a stroller during summer weekdays. She'd practice her shorthand while we all frolicked in the water. She told me she could always tell where I was because I was always talking. There'd be a moment of silence, which meant I was underwater, then talking again the moment I popped back up!

We had lots of fun snorkeling around those rocks too, when I was older.

If there is a heaven, and if I go there when I die, then it will look just like McCarty's cove. The water will be just a touch warmer, though. :-D
