It's raining cats and dogs down here!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, January 13, 2006 - 12:54 pm:

Oh no...Yooper's animation didn't show up on my screen...just a little box with 'snow scene' written on it. Sigh. Bad Earthlink.
It's raining here. Looking out the window and wishing all of this rain could be snow.
Whitewaves, I know, we are having a pathetic winter down here...if you want to call it that, eh. Bet you were all too anxious to head your car north ;)

Babslove, I am trying to remember the name of the hotel we stayed at...just east of the entrance to the Porkies...that's right on Lake Superior. I want to say it's in Silver City...but I'm not sure. I remember that the dining room faced out onto the lake...and if I remember correctly, it was one of the major hotel chains. Anywho, it's a beautiful hotel.

Ok...just got hubby on the phone...he said he remembered traveling 64 north out of Presque Isle Wisconsin, "all da way to da lake"..."make a left, and it's right there before the entrance to da Porkies".

Anyone know the name of this hotel?

Could it be the Americinn? Here's the non-yooper directions: Located on Hwy 107, 13 miles West of Ontonagon. From the South, M64N to Jct. -- Directions -- From Interstate 39, go to Eagel River, WI take Us 45 North to Bruce Crossing, MI. Turn left onto M-28, travel to Bergland, turn right onto M-64, travel north 18 miles to Silver City, MI. Take a left on M-107 pass over the Big Iron River Bridge 100 ft on right.

For an experience you'll never forget ... here's one of my all-time favorites, if it's not too far north for you: Click® Laurium Manor Inn

I have stayed at Americinns all over and they are great for the money. I have never had a bad time.

Happyooper, That's it...thanks. They must have changed names. Thanks for clarifying hubby's directions :) Men...sigh.

MTU has added several new webcams. Some of them show construction for the carnival, One of them (Fund Cam)has a good view of the lift bridge.

Americinn used to be Best Western...and I, too, recommend it as a great place to stay.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, January 13, 2006 - 06:04 pm:

Thanks Katiaie :) For the life of me, I couldn't remember what the original name of the Americinn was ;)

Wind is blowing here too, Whitewaves...making my patio doors creak, in rebellion. And no, all this rain hasn't turned to snow yet.

We have stayed at Americinn in Silver City a couple of times. The pool and hot tub are great and the restaurant is wonderful. I had some of the best trout there that I have ever had.
