It’s a train day folks, with a sprinkle of L’Anse/Skanee Fall color. Nancy Haun starts us off with a photo of the Escanaba and Lake Superior Railroad ELS 600, a vintage EMD FP7A diesel locomotive built in January 1951. This locomotive returned to active mainline freight service in September 2026, following a long period out of service due to a traction-motor failure. It’s quite an exciting event for railfans from all over.
Nancy’s second and third photos were snapped on a rainy and misty day, but the Fall golds and yellows are still showing up. The Canadian National is passing the fiber yard in Bovine, in a heavy mist and a bit of fog. Then the third photo is the CN passing by the old Railroad Boarding House in Herman...the old Railroad House is slowly sinking in upon itself, which is sad, but it happens.
The bottom two photos Nancy captured in the L’Anse/Skanee area. That’s the Slate River surrounded by Fall colors, located about 9 to 11 miles east of the village of L’Anse. Nancy said the heavy rains we’ve had in the past couple week haven’t raised the level of the River, but she sure captured the look of Fall there. Then the last photo is beautiful Skanee, on Town Road. Nancy said every time she turns down this road her heart feels like it will burst and she’s so thankful they purchased land there back in the 80’s. I would guess that when the trees are dressed in Fall like this, it must be breathtaking every day.
Nancy recorded a short video of the ELS 600 leaving Channing, MI. She was in the right place at the right time to see the past come alive again. From what I could find about it, this locomotive will be frequently hauling freight and transfers around Pembine, WI and Channing/Hermansville, MI and the 600, from the 1950’s has brought back hope for the Escanaba Lake Superior Railroad’s comeback from the edge of bankruptcy.

Holy cow, after the repairs that 75 year old locomotive looks brand new! How cool that it is back in service after all this time. Normally not a train fanatic, but all of Nancy’s photos are really stunning! Running out of adjectives to describe these fall colors. The Slate River and Fiber Yard in Bovine photos are my favorites today.

I'm with Cindy here. Totally running out of adjectives for this fall. I honestly can't get over the beauty of it. God's coloring book is a nice way to describe it. I believe Dolly sang that. I always love Nancy's train pictures. But the fiber yard in Bovine is wonderful. I just love the train, the colors and the foggy background. It's just spectacular! I could look at fall pictures all year. Summer may be my favorite season, but fall is my favorite color. Thanks, Nancy.

Thank you ladies and especially Donna. She always remembers and reminds me, when I don't remember myself. I think it's my twenty-third Pastyversary today. Holy Moly, it's been a long run for sure and I couldn't have done it without all the Pasty Cam photographers! A big Thank you to you all!
