Jean Dessellier said she and her hubby knew it was going to be an 80° day a week ago, so they planned their annual Fall overnight at their hunting camp at Rice Lake, outside of Lake Linden. They took advantage of the nice day, put a turkey in the oven and went for an hour and a half walk in the woods, taking pictures along the way. It was a perfect October day and night, with the trees all dressed in golden leaves. Jean described it as just mesmerizing! I would have to agree, the fall colors don’t get much more brilliant than these shots here today.

We’re here with another Crossing Place video from Visit Keweenaw – Falls Colors & Cold War Mysteries: The Kinross Incident. The lead-in says: “High above Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula, a Cold War radar station holds decades of history, an unexplained disappearance, and the promise of autumn's mystique. The former Calumet Air Force Station, now stewarded by the Open Skies Project, offers a rare chance to step inside a preserved yet weathered piece of Upper Peninsula history. Learn about the 1953 Kinross Incident, when a fighter jet vanished over Lake Superior, and the UFO lore that has kept the mystery alive for generations. Perched atop Mount Horace Greeley, the Keweenaw’s highest point, the site pairs fascinating Cold War history with sweeping fall color, panoramic views, and the eerie atmosphere of a place where the past still feels close. For lovers of historic places, urban exploration, paranormal mysteries, and spooky-season travel, it’s a destination that invites you to wander, take in the scenery, and wonder what else might be up there.”

Fabulous colors! A truly golden day (and season)
to behold. And returning from the woods to the
aroma of Turkey roasting in the oven, priceless!
Fascinating video from the Crossing Place too,
thanks for sharing.

Hi
I like the photo titled "Brilliant Color" very much.
Does it seem strange to anyone to see a hunter in
shorts against the fall foliage?

The mystery in the video was intriguing. It's hard to
say what happened with the jet. Though if the radar
somehow lost it going down I think it'd be hard to find
it in either Lake Superior or the woods.

Truly spectacular colors. Honestly, this fall has
been glorious. Definitely makes up for the not so
great summer we had. That 2nd photo is wonderful.
Thanks for sharing these.

What a Blessing that little hideaway has to be!
What glorious pictures!

Love the video, I remember as a little kid, my
Grandmother had to call the airbase when something
weird was in the sky! I couldn't tell you what she
reported, but she did!

Groovy pics and
video! And speaking
of hunting; DNR is
releasing 7’300
pheasants in late
October and November.
Bird, bird, bird, bird is
the word.

Great, really beautiful Fall pics!! I sure miss
not being able to cruise around in the woods up
there this Fall. Interesting video and the Air
Base has very special memories for me... in 1974 &
1975 I was dating a young lady whose father was
stationed there. Once he retired later in 1975,
they moved to Florida. This young lady was
convinced we were going to be married. Distance
didn't do the relationship any favors and
eventually I took off for NMU and the rest is
history. Oh well but I was on the base with her
and her family when it was a really active Air
Station.
