The Covered Road is a dirt road through a forest of trees and this time of year it glows with fall colors. Deb Simons and her hubby Ron knew this and with the sun shining they figured it was time to go check it out. As expected they found themselves surrounded in beauty. It’s hard to pick a favorite from today’s assortment, because I really like each shot for different reasons, but I’ll pick two... the second and the third photos. I love the leaves on the side of the road and there’s so much about the third photo that catches my eye...the bright colors, the two roads, the road sign pointing you on your way, just everything.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Covered Road, it is only about a car and a half wide and is a dirt road. There are multiple places to pull off if you encounter another vehicle to pass by. The property on both sides of the road are private, so respect the landowners and do not trespass. The road is plowed in the winter, but becomes even narrower. To get there, take the Canal Road out of Houghton for about 2 miles, then turn left onto Coles Creek Road. After about 3.8 miles, Coles Creek Road becomes the Covered Road, where the pavement ends. Continue straight on the Covered Road until you reach Liminga Road. You can either turn around there or continue to the right on Liminga Road which will return you to Canal Road. The Covered Road is beautiful and well worth the drive.

Now we’re joining Do It With Dish for a four day-three night canoeing adventure in the Sylvania Wilderness. Dish adds:“The fall colors are at their peak, the lakes are calling, and it’s time to get after it in one of the Northwoods’ most beautiful places. Join me as we paddle through the wilderness, fish the lakes, enjoy the incredible autumn scenery, and experience some unforgettable wildlife encounters. Along the way, we come across a family of otters and watch swans enjoying the peaceful waters. We fire up the trusty cast iron skillet and cook up some hearty fish chowder and gumbo right at camp. We talk about the dos and don’ts of mushroom foraging. This trip has a little bit of everything. Grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and come along for an adventure in the Sylvania Wilderness!

Wow, what a gorgeous drive! Love them
all, but if I had to pick a favorite, it’s the
Fork in the Road photo. Thanks so much for
taking us along :)

Hey Cindy, thanks. It was a fun day. And I'm in
total agreement with you. I had told Mary that I
was thinking about making a canvas out of the fork
in the road picture. I just love that one. But I
take so many pictures that I have a lot I'd like to
make into canvases. We went to Freda that day too.
It was gorgeous!

Hi Deb, I hear you! Must have taken hundreds of
photos UP there last week. Hard to control yourself
with so much beauty everywhere, and those scenic
back roads are just so much fun!
