Cathy McKenzie decided to take a little “off the beaten path” drive to check out the Keweenaw colors last week one day and she was rewarded with some amazing beauty. She did comment that not all areas are quite peak yet, so hopefully we still have a bit more time to enjoy the fall colors. Of course that is dependent on whether the winds and rain hold off from blowing all the leaves to the ground. We sure are blessed to live in this beautiful place where the changing seasons give us a variety of scenery to enjoy. Every Fall I like to remind our visitors here, that we are able to enjoy the Fall colors around the U.P. much longer. Thanks to the photographers sharing their artistry with us, we can make Autumn last a while past the peak, so stay tuned for the next few weeks for more of the Pasty Cam Fall Season.
We join Amanda from over at Visit Keweenaw for a look at the Fall Colors around the Portage Canal. The lead-in says: “The Portage Canal's autumn colors are catching up to our Central and Southern locales, while elsewhere in the Keweenaw, some places are peaking and others are beginning to tremble toward the other side of it. The good news? There’s still plenty of fall to go around.”
Hi It looks like Cathy had a thoroughly enjoyable drive. I have driven the popular M119 in the Northern Lower. It is beautiful, but was so crowded that any driver had to watch traffic more than taking in the scenery. So a less travelled road sounds great.

Yes Kathyrn…the Tunnel of Trees was an annual trip for me before I had M.S.. I took my truck of course because the leaves were too slippery for my motorcycle. I’d drive all the way up from Troy, MI and back again in one day and loved every minute of it!!!

Alex, that *ell even takes that little bit of fun from us...I'm so fortunate to have a wonderful friend, who piles my wheelchair in her car, and takes me out monthly! What a Blessing she us! (Hi Eric! Yes, it's Cindy Lou)...
The colors in the pics are so beautiful! Great video too...I like any of the vids from the Keweenaw!

Hi Alex, I'm impressed that you could drive up from Troy & back on the same day. That's a longer haul than I ever had. Bonus points for coping with SE Michigan traffic.
Incidentally, the last I heard some of the Tunnel of the Trees was still under repair. There were washouts in last spring's flooding.

Absolutely gorgeous drive Cathy, thanks for sharing! And back roads are the best, in many places you can slow down to a crawl if you want, or find a place to pull over safely to take in the view. Traffic stinks lol!

It may be that some little root of the sacred tree still lives. Nourish it then, that it may leaf and bloom and fill with singing birds.
I just love road pictures, especially this time of year. These are so pretty. Hard to choose a favorite.
