Debbie Jarve has been busy checking out some local waterfalls in the Keweenaw this past week. She starts us off with a visit to the Houghton Douglass Falls on M-26, between Laurium and Lake Linden. From the looks of Debbie’s first three photos, there are colors surrounding the falls, but there isn’t too much water flowing over the 110 foot drop on Michigan’s tallest waterfall. The fall colored moss on the rocks in the third photo is my favorite today. I didn’t realize moss turns colors like that, too.
The second set of three photos Debbie took on a hike to the Hungarian Falls in the Hubbell/Tamarack City area. She said she’s never seen these falls with just a trickle of water like you see in her photos. We have had a little bit of rain in the past few days, hopefully that has helped both of these falls. I really like the leaves in the water photos. Beautiful fall colors.
You can also see how low the water is when Debbie was there, in the video she recorded. Make sure you turn your volume UP, so you can hear the sounds of the falls, too.

So beautiful, even without much water falling! Love the colors :)

Hi The photo with the colored moss is striking. I also like the last two photos with leaves in the water.
I'll be in the Northern Lower next weekend. Hope the color will be good.

Houghton Douglass Falls are such a pretty waterfall! And the video was nice, but too short. I could have listened to the trickle all day for an hour.

Beautiful colors. Not much water, but who cares when you're out looking for color. We've been doing that and they're not disappointing.
Thanks for sharing.

That looks like Virginia Creeper going up the falls, that red viney stuff...I used to make wreaths out of that, it looks like grape vines!
Beautiful pictures!
It was such a beautiful day today!
