With color bursting in some places here UP North and color just beginning to turn in other places, we get a look at the latter with a few webcam shots from Isle Royale, captured and shared by Donna MacIntosh. It’s fun to see what’s happening over on the Island when we can’t just take a quick drive there to check things out. The first two photos are from the Greenstone Ridge NE and the Greenstone Ridge SW webcam. You can see the colors are just starting to turn. The third photo is from the Middle Islands Passage webcam, that’s where the Ranger III comes in to Isle Royale, between Caribou Island and the Rock Harbor Lighthouse. You can’t quite see the Lighthouse in that photo, though.

The bottom photo was snapped by Donna’s brother Mike MacIntosh, of the Full Harvest Moon back on September 26th in Escanaba. I love how the rays are shooting out from the moon like that and how bright it looks, too.

We have another new “Crossing Place” video from Visit Keweenaw and it fits right in with the Isle Royale theme here today. The Keweenaw Takes Flight: Isle Royale Seaplanes. The lead-in says: “Part of the Isle Royale experience is the journey there. For generations, folks have made that crossing from the Keweenaw by floatplane, trading the ferry deck for a window seat above Lake Superior. When the island quiets for the season, Isle Royale Seaplanes doesn’t stay grounded. They turn back toward the Keweenaw, where the same skies open up over autumn forests, ridgelines and Lake Superior in full fall color.”

I was torn on which video to share on the Pasty Cam here today, so I decided that I would add a link to the other video I had considered posting. The video link is the interview from WXYZ-Detroit – Channel 7, with the 70 year old Craig Berg who was lost over on Isle Royale for 11 days and was found by two off duty National Guardsmen over there kayaking. The video is just over 35 minutes long, but it truly is interesting to hear how he survived the ordeal right from the man himself. Check it out: WXYZ-Detroit-Channel 7 Interview

I enjoyed the video of the man who took a wrong
turn on the island, holy wha..he's lucky he knew so
much about rural, rugged areas!! Otherwise, I
really don't think it would be such an interesting
interview!

Crossing Place vids are always good!!

For me, celebrating the wildflowers or the birds is
like a kind of worship.

Color is getting there.
And what a great job
to have flying that
airplane every day;

Hi
Beautiful scenery, and two very different videos. The
guy who was lost showed real toughness. It sounds like
he got lost because the trails were not well-marked. I
really liked the seaplane video. My dad used to fly
planes about that size, though not seaplanes. It would
take skill to take off and land on choppy water.
