Marcy Bessolo Hermanson and a friend went on an adventure last week up towards the Keweenaw Point on the first day of Fall. She said the location is a hidden gem, so she’s not giving the exact location and you can just imagine that there are quite a few hidden gems up that way. It was the first time rock picking in this spot for Marcy and her friend and you can see one of her agate finds in the bottom photo... stunning specimen! They went by side-by-side for much of the adventure, but then parked and hiked about a mile and a half each way to get to Lake Superior’s shoreline. The arch in the second photo was on the trail they were hiking, as well as the colors in the trees. You can see that along the shoreline, the colors hadn’t really started there yet.
From what I hear, the colors are really starting to ‘pop’ out toward the Ontonagon area already, but judging from the trees right around Lake Linden, it’s just starting to turn here. We’ll be sharing more colors in the coming weeks, for sure.
Today’s video from In The Keweenaw is a drone flight near Copper Harbor from last week. It’s titled Copper Harbor Blue, with Lake Superior coloring the view, but if you look closely, you can see the beginnings of the leaves starting to turn UP there, too.

Beautiful, Marcy! I love them all. What a fun day
that must have been. Nice agate, too.

Hi
It's not unusual for maples to show color earlier than
the others. My favorite photos are the first and the
4th.

Outstanding set of photos!
So cool that Marcy has a “secret spot” to go
off road and even a secluded Superior beach.
Doesn’t get much better than that ;) Also nice
to see the leaf colors getting busy!
