refrIt’s a daily event for Liz Siivola to check out what’s happening at Calumet Lake and the Swedetown Ponds where she always gets photos of the wildlife at both places. Recently Liz had an unexpected sighting when she spotted a Bald Eagle perched in a tree, just surveying what was going on at Calumet Lake that day. She said it was intently watching the swans and geese on the lake, along with Liz and her dog on the trail, not moving from the dead tree as it sat there keeping an eye on everything and everyone.
The bottom two photos Liz snapped while checking out things at the Swedetown Pond. She said the photos of these Wood Ducks are taken from across the pond with just her cell phone camera, so that was the best she could do, but still fun to see them with their colorful plumage while they swam around the reeds in the pond. Their colorful markings stand out even from a distance like that. Nice spotting of both the Eagle and the ducks!
Now we’re going for a paddle on Lake Superior with Brian and Heather Outdoors. We’ll get a look at some great Superior scenery, Lake Superior Trout and Bald Eagles, too! esh

Wow, magnificent Eagle photos! How cool that it stayed perched as Liz and her dog passed by. We have noticed along our Riverwalk, the Ospreys and Eagles seem to be accustomed to humans and often don’t take flight. Love the Wood Ducks too, with their exotic plumage they are always a delight to see! You may know that they nest in tree cavities near water and will readily use nest boxes. But they are also one of the few duck species equipped with strong claws that can grip bark and perch on branches. Mother Nature is eternally amazing :)

Hi Excellent photos of the Bald Eagle and the Wood Ducks. I've only seen a Wood Duck once. There used to be an eagle nest in a Nature Conservancy preserve a few miles up the coast from my cabin. However, someone built a big vacation home right at the edge of the preserve. The noise and disturbance of the construction evidently disturbed the eagle and we no longer saw it.

BEAUTIFUL Eagle pictures....that HAD to be such a thrill! I watched those Eagles that made such huge news, I wasn't quite as enthused as some, but when I did watch, holy wha, those are parents you don't want to mess with!
Awesome video, and some nice catches...I'm addicted to Discovering, and when the go deep in the lake, they pull up some huge lunkers...are fish bigger as you go deeper? These were nice fish caught on the vid!

Wouldn't that last pic of the duck and the reeds make an absolutely wild jigsaw puzzle? Great photos, Liz!

Gorgeous pictures. When we lived in Minnesota, we had to eagle's nests close to our house. It was fun to see how many babies there'd be each year. And George, I'm so bad at puzzles I'd never finish one like that.

Very nice, especially against that UP blue sky. Thanks for sharing!
