Unless you have a boat or a kayak like Jeff Dennis, you’d never get to see the amazing Sandstone cliffs and walls out past Little Traverse. Jeff and Chris recently paddled out from Little Traverse to Rabbit Bay, then all the way back again and today’s photos are the Superior views they were treated to along the way on Lake Superior. Look how small Chris and her kayak look next to those towering sandstone walls. Just amazing and to think we have that here in our area, our own little “pictured rocks”. We really are blessed with some outstanding beauty here in the Copper Country.

Jeff wraps up this Tuesday with a Little Traverse bonfire. He says: “The fire burns low, and summer slips away. May the memories keep us warm…” Make sure you have your volume turned UP, so you can hear the waves rolling into shore, too.

So nice to see Fritz (the Wonder Dog) back
for another episode! Just love the beautiful
Jacobsville Sandstone cliffs. Aside from the color,
the shoreline does resemble the taller cliffs at
Pictured Rocks. Did you know that same ancient
Jacobsville Sandstone layer lies BENEATH the
Pictured Rocks? It is capped by the much younger
Munising Formation and mostly submerged under
Lake Superior (or underground).
And the beach bonfire video is awesome!

Awesome pictures as always. Fritz should have been
called Riley, because he certainly had the life of
him, lol. He's got Jeff and Chris wrapped around
his little paws. He's just so much fun.

Cindy, you sure have a plethora of information.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge of all things
yooper with us.

How stunning! That's exactly what I thought,
too..."Look how huge those rocks are compared to
Chris"...holy wha, and Fritz looks like he's
laughing!

No doubt Deb, Cindy always has info to share!!
Thank you Cindy!

I could put that video on a loop and listen to it
all day (and night)!!

Hi
How great Jeff & CO have that spectacular scenery to go
kayaking in. Nice to see Fritz's face.

It's been so long since I've been to a beach fire. I
remember good times with my mom, her parents, my dad,
my brother, my aunt and my cousins.

Deb and Donna, you are very welcome! I do a lot
of research planning UP trips and stumble on all
kinds of interesting information. Always on the
lookout for a cool new place to explore, often
along the way to an old favorite:) Scoped out a
few possibilities around Newberry and the Soo
for next month, we can’t wait!!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 - 01:37 pm:

Cindy, we were considering going to the Soo next
month. If it happens, I'll hit you up for some
ideas.

By Cindy Conway (Birdfan) on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 - 02:05 pm:

Sounds good Deb ;) Of course Whitefish Point
and Tahquamenon Falls are within reach from
there and the drive along Whitefish Bay Scenic
Byway is a real treat too!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 - 02:18 pm:

Yes, been to all of that. But haven't been to the
falls in autumn. So that's an option.

By Cindy Conway (Birdfan) on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 - 02:41 pm:

We found some amazing stuff straight south
of the Soo from Cedarville area to DeTour, along
the Lake Huron shore.
Look up the William B. Derby Nature Preserve
In Cedarville. You would love it!

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 - 03:25 pm:

Hi
DebS, if you do take a trip to Taquamenon Falls in
October, the roads make a good color tour---also,
definitely, Whitefish Bay Scenic Byway as Cindy
mentions. That reminded me in some ways of the famous
M-119 in the northern lower: trees over the road,
scenic views of the water. But it was wide enough to
drive faster and there wasn't the traffic.

Not sure why my comments posted twice, above.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 - 04:13 pm:

Thanks, Cindy and Kathryn. Definitely excited to
go. We have a new great-grandbaby due soon so it'll
depend on that.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 - 10:10 pm:

FYI, the Jacobsville also underlies the Soo Locks as well. In fact, the new lock is being driven through the Jacobsville.
