Frequent Pasty Cam contributor from the Munising area Kevin Dunham asks, “How about some closeup bee shots? Anyone?” When I saw his handiwork, I jumped at the chance to share them here. We don’t often get to be (pun intended) this close to a bee, let alone an Orange-Belted Bumblebee while it’s busy gathering pollen. Take a look at the yellow pouch on the back legs of the bumblebee. Those are specialized structures on the hind legs of female bumblebees, called pollen baskets or cubicula, in which they carry the pollen they collect from the flowers. Pretty amazing if you ask me... both that they have these “built-in” baskets for carrying pollen and that Kevin captured these bumblebees so close-up and clear, so we can see these baskets all filled UP.

On a recent visit to the Bishop Baraga Shrine on Keweenaw Bay between Baraga and L’Anse, Brother Paschal from the Franciscan Brothers of Peace in St. Paul, Minnesota, gave an impromptu, short concert for Nancy Haun, playing Amazing Grace on a Native Flute. So beautiful and such a peaceful sound.

Those are so Bee-autiful (sorry, couldn’t resist
lol)! Seriously though, great work Kevin, not sure
I’ve ever seen an Orange-belted Bumblebee.
Also not ruling it out, as I probably wouldn’t get
close enough to know for sure what bee that is!

To Bee or not to Bee!! Beautiful, but I try to
stay away from bee's, especially if she's really
mad at me!! :=))

North Bound in 2 hours!! Spotify is ready so is
the rig!! Camping just 2 miles east of the Mighty
Mac, looking forward to it, the legs are doing
much better. Looking forward to some fantastic
Whitefish dinners. (Jim, if you were with me, that
would be great and I'm buyin!! :-)) lol

It's not the Yoop, but darn close and I'll make
the trip across the bridge as well, for a Lehto's
Pasty, and a trip east to Cedarville to look at
some property there, beautiful area.

Have a great week, Pasty Fam!!
