Recently when Liz Siivola was on her way home from the ponds, she saw the most amazing sight... a number of bucks with the velvet antlers, hanging out together. It’s common for them to do so until the rut starts, then the competition begins and they don’t stick together any more. Also, bucks typically lose their velvet from late August through mid-September, so these guys will be shedding the velvet any time now or may have already begun to do so.

Liz also recorded a video of the small herd of bucks... it’s definitely a treat to see a few together like that. She said they looked like they were having so much fun and it was quite exciting for Liz to get the photos and video, too.

The bottom photo was one that Liz has been trying to get for weeks...the Egret in flight! She was there for quite a while and then left, but went back again a few hours later and as luck would have it, she got her shot! And what a shot it is, with the reflection, too. Nice captures today, Liz!

Beautiful photos and video Liz! Love the velvet
Bucks, and have to ask, who is watching who? :)
Nice capture of the Great Egret in flight too,
your timing was just perfect! They look like such
tropical birds (and they are indeed year round
residents there) but non breeding Great Egrets can
wander north into Canada during late summer.

I have never seen that many male deer together at
one time! And I fed deer for several years, I'd
have one or two pop in, but never saw a gang like
this!! I watched a vid the other day of deer
peeing in a creek...they didn't leave their scent
behind that way! That just amazed me...smart
critters!

Donna, think I’ve only seen that many bucks
together one time! We were at JP Fish &
Wildlife Area to see the Sandhill Cranes in
November. They leave some corn standing in
a No Hunting area for the Cranes, and guess
where all the bucks hang out? Like you said,
smart critters lol ;)

What great pictures. I love seeing bucks still in
velvet. Lucky lady to catch these. And the regret
picture is amazing, too.

So much fun to watch the deer playing and dancing
like that. Such beautiful pictures.

Nice pic’s & video! Looks like one or two were trying to show their
dominance, all well and good until the rut begins, and the big
daddy’s scares them away, better luck next year, little ones!!
