While camping here in the Copper Country, Laurie Bashaw and her hubby Edward headed to Mount Bohemia for a hike on the Cliff View Trail. It was a perfect day to be in the outdoors, a bit windy, but not to bad. Laurie said the wind felt good as it was warm when they were in the sun on the trail. They were instructed to just follow the “blue cones” along the trail, which they did and ended up with some outstanding views of Lac La Belle, both in town and looking out towards Lake Superior, too. Laurie said they could have gone up higher, but it looked a little dicey, especially when they would have been coming back down, so they decided the views would be the same, just from a higher vantage point. Edward said, ‘caution being the better part of valor, we chose to be cautious’. In the winter the trail they hiked is a snowshoe trail and Laurie said she’s not sure she would want to try that unless someone else broke trail first!

Now we join MI Playground for more beautiful views. Exploring the Porcupine Mountains – Incredible Overlooks in Michigan’s U.P. The lead-in says: “We explore the Porcupine Mountains in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on a hiking adventure featuring amazing overlooks along the Escarpment Trail, Lake of the Clouds, and the highest point in the area on the Summit Peak Trail.”

Hi
Yesterday, I was very familiar with the Tahquamenon
Falls area and other posters hadn't visited in a
while. Today the shoe is on the other foot.

I have never been to Mount Bohemia. From various
posts here, it looks formidable in the winter and
doubtless equally steep going in the summer. Laurie &
Ed, good for you in hiking it.

I haven't been to the Porcupine Mts since I was a
kid. We did look at Lake of the Clouds but we got
there by car.

What gorgeous beauty!

These are great pictures. We've been up there so
often and it never loses its appeal. Kathryn, you
sshould go up there in the fall. Talk about beauty.
There are many people who take the ski lift up and
then walk down, without walking sticks. I'd
probably roll down, lol.

Way to go Laurie and Ed! Looks like that hike
might be a bit much for me, but the views sure
are outstanding, thanks for sharing. We drove
around that area once, made a big loop from
Copper Harbor to hike Estivant Pines, then out to
Haven Falls, past the Tobacco River mouth to Gay.
Was quite a scenic drive! Also drove up to Lake of
the Clouds, but gosh that was 40+ years ago.

Hi
DebS, the Keweenaw is quite a drive from Cheboygan; I
don't see myself doing it at this point. When my
parents had the trailer I joined them on camping trips
in the western UP, but even then it was a rare
occurrence. Yes, I'm sure there are nice motels...
