Isaac Diener commented that he was bored on this day, so he pulled out his camera and started snapping pictures of the Hummingbirds on his porch. Honestly, when I first saw Isaac’s photos, I thought they were of a porcelain statue of the Hummingbird on a feeder, they were just so perfect looking. Amazing to be able to capture them hovering and sitting on the feeder, too. There is so much detail in each of these photos, it’s like you could reach out and touch those tiny little birds. Isaac also mentioned that the hummingbirds around his feeders had disappeared for around a week, he thinks that was due to the heavy wildfire smoke we had a few weeks back, so he was glad to be seeing them again.

Since we’re on a ‘critter’ kind of day, I thought we’d wrap UP with a Raccoon family that Frederic Koski, over at Fred Koski Photography captured on his game camera. He wondered if it was a family or maybe a nursery providing ‘nightcare’. Frederic leaves us with a lesson in raccoons, as he said a group of them is called a “gaze”. Now we’re all a bit smarter for that bit of information. Thanks, Frederic!

These are so great! I could watch them for hours
and never get tired of them. They sure don't like
to share, though.

Fabulous Hummingbird photos! So glad Isaac
was bored and captured these, they are great!
Cool Raccoon family video too.

Hummingbirds are adorable, but what vicious lil
things, when they start "sword" fighting, and you
can hear the clicking of those beaks...there is
territory to fight over!

Awesome video! Baby Racoons are just so darn cute!

They are indeed tough little birds despite their
dainty appearance! According to the Cornell Lab
of Ornithology: The oldest known Ruby-throated
Hummingbird was a female, and at least 9 years,
2 months old when she was recaptured and
rereleased in 2014 during banding operations
in West Virginia.
Which means during migration she probably
crossed the Gulf of Mexico 18 times, just amazing!
