If you’re anywhere in the U.P. right now, driving in the country or along farm fields, you’ll probably run across someone baling hay, because it’s hay making time UP North. We’re hooking UP with Trevor Case and his beautiful little girls while they’re busy making hay. The girls are a little young yet to be handling the hay making duties, but they’re right out there on the family farm with Dad, helping with what they can every day.
Case Country Farm is a small, first generation family farm focusing on sustainable and holistic practices using no pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or GMO’s. They specialize in pastured raised Berkshire pork and Angus beef in the Chatham area, southwest of Munising.

Farming is hard work and Trevor is teaching his girls a love for farming and you can see by their smiles, that they enjoy the cows and pigs. But all work and no play makes for dull kiddos, so Trevor makes sure the family gets a healthy balance of fun thrown in with the farm work too.

If you’ve never seen hay being baled, Trevor shares a video of baling the hay into big round bales. If you look closely as the tractor drives by, you can see the girls in there with Dad, they even fall asleep sometimes, making for a good naptime, too. His tractor is equipped with an extra seat, called a “buddy seat” for the girls to sit comfortably in the cab with him.

Oh what an awesome set! So nice to see a family
farm with the kids enjoying the outdoors and the
livestock. Just last week, we attended the Elkhart
County 4-H Fair, billed as Indiana’s largest County
fair. It was great! Grew up out in farm country
and have always loved that stuff, with a special
fondness for the beautiful giant draft horses.

used to be such hot, sticky, smelly work. The
machinery he's got there has to be some huge
bucks!

It's so great to see kids outside having fun
instead of sitting inside playing their video
games. Such cute pictures of the girls playing on
the farm.

I've always loved watching the tractors making
hay.i never wanted to live on a farm because the
smell of horse and cow manure truly makes me sick
to my stomach. It's just one of those smells for
me, though not the only one.

Great set and video today, and apparently it's time for my annual joke here on Pasty:
I didn't think they were allowed to make those round hay bales anymore because the cows had complained that they weren't getting good square meals.
(Sorry....just had to do it!)

Before my dad passed on I helped him make both the
big bales and the smaller square ones. Many good
memories.
