Jeff Dennis and family (minus Fritz this trip) took a ferry to Mackinac Island recently and he said the only thing they don’t like about Mackinac Island is leaving and getting back to the real world. I don’t blame them, it really is a magical place with just horses for transportation, horse drawn taxis or bicycles. The magic is even more-so if you can stay overnight when the majority of the visitors go back to the mainland. Some of the visitors stay all the time, though, like the otters Jeff captured swimming in Lake Huron or the huge toad Rose picked up for a photo op... I wonder if she gave it a kiss, hoping it would be a handsome prince? I love the evening photo of Arch Rock, it looks somewhat mystical with the flash of the camera lighting the darkened skies around it.

Those last three photos Jeff snapped on the morning they were getting ready to leave and head back to reality. The fog was probably a good indication of their mood, too, as he said, leaving the Island is not their favorite thing.

The family took a kayak tour with Great Turtle Kayaks there on the Island and Jeff recorded some of the happenings. I asked if you could rent the kayaks and go out on your own and Jeff said he got the impression that you had to have a guide for safety, their rules. They’re located near the Shepler Dock in the downtown and there is a lot of boat traffic in that area, so they require a guide to keep everyone safe. So neat to watch the sun setting while on the tour and get such a great view of the Island from the water, too.

Too bad that Fritz missed out on the Mackinac Island experience. It truly is a magical place. Had a great visit there for a few days back in 2013.

I was all set to hear the "the only thing they don’t
like about Mackinac Island" being something negative,
like "horse droppings" or "the crowds", or "the
increased cost of the ferries". I wouldn't mind the
first two.

With my family's cabin near Cheboygan, I've been to
the island a lot over the years. I remember riding
bikes as a kid and my grandpa buying candy---not
fudge but Rocky Road, chocolate-covered rasins,
chocolate-covered peanuts & other stuff.

Beautiful pictures. I'm going to have to go back
soon. It's been too long. Thanks for taking us
along, Jeff. (Poor Fritz😉.)

Definitely worth the trip if you haven’t been there.
