Brooke Gubacz was recently in the Norway, MI area and went to check out Piers Gorge located in the Menominee River State Recreation Area. The Piers Gorge website link above here, says: “There are three piers in the park - Piers Gorge in the north, Quiver Falls, and Pemene Falls in the south - stop to enjoy the breathtaking views and watch whitewater rafters ride the rapids.” It is a rugged wilderness area managed together by Michigan and Wisconsin, featuring the most intense whitewater in the Midwest, along with a popular 1.5 mile trail (about 3 miles round trip) on the Michigan side that offers great views of the rapids. Brooke hiked along the trail snapping some great shots of the whitewater rapids as they frothed and churned along the way.

It is a major destination for experienced kayakers and guided commercial whitewater rafting trips. While Brooke was hiking the trail, she was lucky enough to record a short video of some of the brave folks taking on the whitewater rapids there on the Menominee River. Turn UP your volume, you can hear the raging waters and the people on the raft squealing with delight or terror... I’m not sure which!

That rafting would be terrifying to me! Although we
really enjoyed the same hiking trail that Brooke was
exploring along the Menominee River. Gorgeous
views all up and down the river there! We stayed in
Iron Mountain once and the winding river is the
Michigan/Wisconsin boundary along that stretch.
Driving UP there we crossed the Menominee several
times, greeted with signs: Welcome to Michigan,
Welcome to Wisconsin, Welcome to Michigan, lol :)
