When it’s hot in town here in the Keweenaw, it’s a good bet you can find it refreshing out at White City and the Keweenaw Waterway Lower Entry Pier and Lighthouse. That’s where Michelle Lutke and Brett Biggers are taking us today. That’s Brett in the first shot, taking a photo of the Lighthouse out at the end of the Pier. It was a sunny, beautiful day, but a bit windy one, too, making all the whitecaps on the waves rolling in to shore and against the Pier. Michelle said she prefers the water to be much calmer than it was to walk out on the Pier, so she was happy she had a 105mm lens to snap the photos from the shore instead. Better to be safe, than sorry.

It’s always a fun place to hang out for a while, even on windy days like this one was. Michelle wonders who else loves Michigan Lighthouses like she does? Make sure you volume is turned up so you can hear all the wave action from that day.

Awesome! Spent a lot of time out at White City,
back in the day! Haven't been there in years
though.

Such a cool spot. Was quite the hangout when we
were teenagers. We go out there at least once a
year to walk out to the lighthouse.

how they caught the gull cruising by. And I never
tire of watching waves on Mother Superior :)

Boy, does that look lovely and refreshing! At first
glance, it doesn't look like the waves are high
enough to be dangerous. Then I took a closer look,
and realized the flat surface looks narrow. With
metal objects that could make you trip. And an orange
coating of unknown slipperiness. So, Michelle, I
understand and concur.

When you're a teenager you think you're
indestructible, true? DebS, I'm sure you and your
pals had fun.

Kathryn, it's not really slippery up there. Even
with my knee replacement I didn't have a difficult
time last summer.

And I think my brother and his friends probably had
more fun than I ever did out there, if you get my
drift. Lotsa drinking parties for him. He couldn't
swim and jumped off the breakwall. Teenagers don't
always use the best judgment. He was lucky. We went
for picnicking and swimming.

When I lived in the Kalamazoo area, I was only an hour
away from South Haven on Lake Michigan. I'd go there a
lot, & out on the pier. It is wider than the one
pictured here, with railings and an elevated walkway
down the middle (that was for Coast Guard guys, not the
public).
