If you’re looking for something to do on Wednesday evenings in Houghton, head over the Waterfront Pier for the Good Times Music Summer Slam, featuring free live outdoor performances by a rotating lineup of local and regional acts performing a variety of genres. My hubby and I recently were on the Houghton Waterfront Pier to enjoy one of the local music acts, along with a walk along the Waterfront Trail, where we found some interesting artwork. My favorite was the bookshelf near the Portage Lake Library. If you look close at the books painted on this artwork, they all are popular children’s books with names changed a bit to take in the Keweenaw and Houghton. It’s really quite clever!

Something else we found were some musical instruments that we could make our own music with, or accompany the performers without disturbing their music, as this was located on the opposite side of the Library, away from the performers.

We also found plenty of beautiful flowers, peonies with a great view of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge and further down the trail, some colorful Irises and a plethora of other flowers decorating our way. The City of Houghton Beautification Committee sure does a great job creating beauty and fun along the trail there.

In case your feet are tired from walking the Waterfront, we’re joining In the Keweenaw for a drive on US-41, heading south from Copper Harbor on the Covered Road. So buckle UP and enjoy the scenery...you can do all the back seat driving you want, too!

The drive to Copper Harbor is so nice. My favorite
time is during late September or early November. I
have a canvas made of the autumn beauty of that
drive. I never tire of it.

We are blessed with some awesome Riverwalk
trails along the St. Joseph River here in northern
Indiana too. And this weekend the Krasl Art Fair
returns to St. Joseph Michigan, up on the bluff
overlooking Lake Michigan. The river also empties
into the Big Lake there at the picturesque pier
and Lighthouse.

free library, I assumed the caption "Artwork on the
Waterfront Trail" was a mistake. It is indeed clever.

I love the way towns have free concerts on summer
evenings--so fun.
