We’re taking a hike to Cushman Falls in Ontonagon County, with Michelle Lutke, Brett Biggers and Sisu. Michelle says they’ve hiked to this waterfall a few times since they moved to the U.P. and it’s one of those places that they know they’ll have to themselves, so when they want a little seclusion, this is where they go. She adds that it’s not the easiest to find the first time you go, but there is a spur trail to it off the North Country Trail, kind of near the Victoria Dam. You can park on the side of the road and take a really overgrown, old two-track until you come to the North Country Trail and then follow that to the spur trail. In the bottom photo with Brett and Sisu standing by the falls, for scale - Brett is 6’5” tall! This one is definitely another “hidden” waterfall, so get out there and explore!

Michelle’s video reel gives you a good feeling for the serenity of this little waterfall. She says that as much as she loves raging waterfalls, the smaller creeks like Cushman Creek and other streams, provide some of the best sounds. Make sure your volume is turned up to hear them!

Alex, I agree. Since the Eastern UP is a day trip from
my cabin, I've been to Tahquamenon Falls often.
However, since they are farther away, I mostly haven't
been to the many Western UP waterfalls posted on this
site.
