Deborah Goodell and her honey, Jake were headed north to check out the mouth of the Montreal, but discovered you have to walk forever now, as the road is gated on the privately owned property, so instead, they decided to check out the Bete Grise Beach on this sunny day. It looks like they had it all to themselves and Deborah said it was way cooler by Lake Superior. The sun, the beach, the beautiful sand and the sparkling Superior waters, it doesn’t get much better than that. Deborah put her feet in the water and said if she had brought her swimsuit she would have gotten more than her feet wet. Give it a few weeks and warmer days and this beach will be crowded with folks.

Now we join Michelle Lutke at a different U.P. beach. One minute of pure Lake Superior at Agate Beach near Toivola. Michelle has her feet in the water, also, but she did so with her boots on, because she was doing some rock hounding. Make sure you watch it to the end to see what her honey, Brett Biggers was UP to! Then you can check out more adventures from Michelle and Brett here: Wandering Michigan

Hi
Ah, the beach! Whenever I need to lower my blood
pressure I imagine myself on my beach up north, with
the same lovely blue water and sound of the waves.

Deborah, you may be made of sterner stuff than me. I'm
used to cold northern Lake Huron water and it was a
nice summer day. So I stuck my feet in the water at
Bete Gris but...I was deterred from proceeding. I have
photos of that trip, including my mom caught in mid-
yelp when she tried it.

Ahhhh…can almost smell that fresh Superior air!
Superb beach, enjoyed all the pics, thanks :)

Great video too, looks like the big rubber boots are
absolutely the right gear for serious rock picking.
Combined with long pants, would give you some
protection from those pesky ankle biter flies too!

UP blues and sandy
beaches everywhere!
Love em all.
And a great video too
with no music and no
talking, just the sound
of the relaxing waves.
Many thanks Ms Goodell.

Yes, the beach. We've been busy with things around
the house and haven't made it to the beach yet. But
soon enough we'll be spending most of the hot days
there, with either just our feet in or actually
going completely in. Sometimes we'll bring
sandwiches and sometimes we'll bring hot dogs to
cook. Either way, summer time is Lake Superior time
for us. Thanks for the nice pictures and video.
Loved the sound of the waves.

Has anyone heard the "Singing Sands of Bete Grise Beach?" I've tried a couple of times and I think I hear a bit of a squeak, but I've lost all my hearing above 2 to 3 KHz. I can't carry on a conversation with woman, with a high pitched voice, in a semi crowded place (even with my hearing aids). I think some time ago, Alexis Dahl proved the sands DO sing.
