Beth Jukuri recently had a great day outdoors with her daughter and grandson, filled with flowers a bike ride and spotting artwork along the trail. The tulips in the first two photos are along the Houghton Waterfront. I love all the colors, especially the tulips in the second photo, they almost look like pastel hues... so pretty.
That’s Beth’s grandson in the third photo, she said he loves to point out the artwork along the trail. Such a beautiful, artsy flower among Beth’s Daffodils, I can see why her grandson is drawn to it. The bottom photo is a bouquet of Marsh Marigolds that they found in the woods, growing in a ravine near the river. They sure add color to the landscape, but beware... they contain a toxin that can cause skin irritation upon contact and nausea or vomiting if ingested. Yikes!
Speaking of things that make you go yikes... today’s video from Discover the U.P. is one of them. This is episode 185 of Discovering – Deer Ticks & Lyme Disease. Kristin Ojaniemi talks about how she wasn’t careful and now has Lyme Disease and sits down with Nurse Practitioner, Ashley Johnson who she sees for her Lyme Disease. They discuss deer ticks, prevention, common misconceptions and what to do if you are bitten by a deer tick. We get to learn from Kristin’s own mistakes and she says, “Trust me, you don’t want Lyme.”

Mary…the title of the fourth pic is “Daffofils” which if I recall are Daffy Dills. And Two Lips are better than one. Beautiful set, none the less!

Lovely floral tour today! Imagine by now most of your tulips and daffodils are done, but early summer blooms will be opening soon. Honestly, that looks like a great hike to enjoy all year! Just a lot less gear needed when the weather is pleasant. And according to the video, ticks tend to calm down around August? Sounds like the time we should plan another UP trip…bugs love me :(

These are absolutely beautiful. My tulips were nice but I have since had to deadhead them. I miss them already. But now the Columbine are blooming and others are coming up. The irises should be blooming shortly, and the poppies will be quick too. It's a great time of year.

Agreed, this time of year is pretty amazing! Between all the critters out & about, and new things blooming, never know what you’ll encounter on a daily walk. Just don’t forget to check for ticks!

Hi Nice flower photos. Spring is when I notice that your climate is a bit different (well, fall color timing too).
I just got back from a quick trip to the Straits area. There were still a few yellow ladyslippers and trillium out at the Headlands. When my family would go up over Memorial Day we used to see them in full bloom, along with columbine.

Good advice, Cindy! Just in the last week, we had two on our son's dogs, one crawling on my husband's shirt and two attached to him. All 5 were the dog/wood ticks and weren't there long, they were not engorged yet.
