Sylvania Wilderness is an 18,327 acre protected area, located a few miles west of Watersmeet Township, in the western part of the U.P. of Michigan. It is part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. Michelle Lutke and Brett Biggers recently spent an evening paddling one of the numerous lakes in the area, enjoying the beauty and being out on the lake with the loons. She said it is one of their favorite places to kayak, adding that life doesn’t get much better than this. These two sure know how to find the beauty all around the U.P. and I’m happy they share it with us, because most of the places they explore I’ve never been to in person.

As if the photos here today aren’t enough, we have an amazing video that will make you feel like you’re out there on the lake with them and the loons on that peaceful evening paddle. To see more of Michelle and Brett’s adventures, click here: Wandering Michigan

Hi
What a great experience to paddle those peaceful waters
with loons. I do wonder that there are three, not a
pair, in both the photos and video.

How beautiful! I've never been there. Looks
amazingly peaceful. And those loons are so
gorgeous. The call of the loons in the video makes
me just feel at peace. Thank you for sharing these.

Oh my, what a wonderful evening adventure!
Still another absolutely gorgeous Ottawa Forest
location that we have never visited.
Appears the Loons were not overly nervous about
their human visitors. In photo #4, I wonder if that
“beaks down” posture has something to do with the
third loon (potential rival)? Didn’t notice any
aggressive behavior in the video.
We just spotted a single loon yesterday down here
on the St. Joseph River. Assume it must be a non
breeding Individual or it should be UP North by now.

Absolutely stunning...and the sound of the Loon's
call gave me goose bumps...how beautiful!
