Memorial Day specifically honors the over 1.3 million Americans who died in military service. Many folks confuse it with Veterans Day (observed Nov. 11th), which celebrates the service of all living and past U.S. Military Veterans. Today we honor those who died serving our country. At 3:00 p.m. local time, Americans are encouraged to pause for one minute to remember and honor the sacrifices made by these brave men, women and their families.

Today’s photos were taken at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden. The American Legion Post 90 and the Legion Auxiliary place flags on all Veteran’s graves earlier in the month, in preparation for Memorial Day, to honor all Veteran’s who have passed away. The Legion and Auxiliary have a program in front of City Hall in Lake Linden at 9:30 a.m., then head out to the cemetery to perform another ceremony there at 10:30 and then out to the Jacobsville Cemetery for a service at 11:30. It’s a day for remembering and honoring those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

Today’s video from MatrixNative says it best: The Greatest Memorial Day Speech of All Time – 2026 Memorial Day Tribute – with President Ronald Reagan.

Have a meaningful Memorial Day!

I was just there last night. Such a beautiful
cemetery. My mom passed away in April so it seemed
strange putting things on the grave for her when
she hasn't been buried yet. But we put hers
alongside my dad's and brothers. And then there was
one left. I always feel good going there and
remembering them. I often wonderf anybody will do
that for me or if it stops with my generation. I
hope it doesn't. I feel it's important to go and
remember the loved ones who have gone before me. I
hope my descendants will feel that way too. I've
tried to instill this in them. I guess time will
tell. I drove out to the cemetery last night after
dark to be sure the solar lights were working. It
was a sight to behold, but I forgot my camera. I
will try to go again tonight.

Beautiful pictures from a beautiful cemetery.

Grateful living is the awareness that we stand on
holy ground—always—in touch with Mystery.

Beautiful pics taken on a beautiful day!
A nice way to honor our Veterans.
“Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
(John 15:13)
I’ll be watching “Saving Private Ryan “
today which has become a yearly tradition.

Hi
DebS, my father, mother and only brother have all
passed on. So for me, too, it is "and then there was
one". I'll be going up to the memorial garden where
their ashes were interred shortly. But I also
remembered them yesterday by keeping up a family
tradition: going to the pancake breakfast at our
airport. My dad was a member of the Jackson chapter
of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), which
has this event every year on the Sunday before
Memorial Day. He, my mom & I were part of the crew
(my brother was happy to show up & eat).

Donna, I love your quote. Alex, that's a great
tradition.

Kathryn, I'm sorry, but nice you have traditions to
remember. For us it was always a day for decorating
graves and then, if it was nice enough, a picnic.
It's strange being the last one. My mom had that
for the last many years as far as her generation
goes. And then, since 2018, it's been just the two
of us.

Alex, I love that quote too, and I love watching
Saving Private Ryan. I always want it to end
differently.
