Chris Hendra over at Chris Hendra Photography has been busy capturing some new birds starting to show up with the spring migration. His first shot is a White-throated Sparrow. So pretty with the little dabs of yellow above its bill. The next two photos are a Brown Thrasher. Chris said he finds these birds shy and challenging to get a decent photo of, as they like the thick brush and spend a lot of time on the ground. He added that if you sit long enough, they eventually show themselves. I guess patience is the key.

The bottom photo is a snapping turtle reflection. Chris explained that laying in the mud to get a picture of a turtle will make you question your sanity. I loved his Mom’s comment the best: “My dear Chris...this wasn’t the first time in your life that you laid in mud! So worth it for the photo you took, but you can wash your own clothes!” That sure made me chuckle...

Our video is from Navarre’s Wild Shots, featuring White-throated Sparrow songs and calls. The lead-in says: “Hear the pure songs of the White-throated Sparrow! Watch this White-throated Sparrow sing its songs and make other calls. The sweet, crisp songs of the white-throated sparrow are a perfect melody that many people hear, making this an iconic bird sound.”

Hi
Nice pictures & video. Some people hear the White-
throated Sparrow's call as "Old Sam Peabody, Peabody,
Peabody".

Superb bird photos and video!
The song of a White-throated Sparrow
always reminds me of summer in the UP.
We only hear that during spring migration,
but sometimes see them under the feeder
with Juncos in the winter.
Brown Thrashers are amazing vocalists as well!
And they are excellent at staying just out of sight.
Can almost imagine you thinking “I gotta be nuts”
to get that Snapper photo lol ;)
Thanks for sharing Chris!

I love birds so much and it's frustrating to me
that our yard gets very few birds since our
neighbor cut down his cedar trees. Our yard has no
trees. We planted some when we moved here in 2021,
but they're not big enough yet. We've seen the
sparrows that have the head markings like this one
does, but there's no yellow. So I guess I'm not
sure what they are. My husband thought they were
called white striped. I'll have to do some
research.

These are great pictures. And I loved listening to
the sparrow, as did my cats, lol. They looked all
over for this bird.

Deb, White-crowned Sparrows are
quite similar, but without the
yellow on their face
(and no distinct white throat).
Also see them in more open areas,
even along edges of cornfields.

Gorgeous photos today...and laying in the mud to
get that shot is pure DEDICATION~! That is
impressive.

Awesome video too...the joys of Spring and Summer
when the trees sing at you!

I hear a Mourning Dove in that video too.

Thanks, Cindy. We've been gone all day so I didn't
get to start the research. My hubby will be happy
to know what they're called.
